There are reasons why I know a lot of people who will still play N64 games but few people who will play a Playstation games ... Load times alone make some of the 'Best' Playstation games unplayable messes

Well, considering Moore's Law, and that next gen is maybe 3 years away at the earliest, it'd be a stretch for carts to make a comeback, however the following generation it can and probably will.

Thank you for stating the obvious. We aren't currently debating capacity, that issue was addressed way up top and is rather common knowledge.
You were suggesting the physical dimensions of the two mediums placed CD's at the advantage for storing them. You've been informed otherwise. |
We are debating CD/DVD vs Cartridge, read the title, Thank you for coming.
I was suggesting BOTH, again, read my first post.
50GB SD, how much? Is it possible in next 5 years to have it cheap enough to replace disc format? I remember SS (64GB) harddrive upgrade on Apple Air costs over 1000 dollars.
Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

Yeah I agree. Brawl's load times compared to SSBM and SSB are unbearable! It takes as long as 20 seconds to load....
I already stated we've covered the capacity issue yet you were harping on the dimensions for storage of the discs themselves. You've dodged the issue a few times and now you're just trying to act smug to save face.
Let it go.
EDIT:
Rendo, Moor's Law is in reference to the number of cost effective transitors on a microship doubling every 18 month. It has nothing to do with storage or any other facet of electronics and technology.
The rEVOLution is not being televised
I love carts, less load times, more saves, less reading issues... what a memories...

ROM memory is far less expensive than Flash memory, 16GB of flash memory is somewhat affordable currently ($70 retail for a usb key), and you need less storage space on a cartridge because you are not going to be storing redundant data to keep loading times reasonable.
Personally, I doubt there will be a move towards cartridges again ... I think it is far more likely that data requirements will moderate while RAM continues to grow, which will result in massive ram-discs to cache a lot of game data to create more seamless environments.
Moore's law is primarily based on transistors doubling and the cost, but it also applies to many other aspects of hardware.

What do you suppose they use to make memory on a silicone chip?
Memory is produced using the same digital logic gates that are used within a CPU which are made up of transistors; being that the number of transistors on a silicone chip doubles every 18 months this means that the ammount of memory that can be put on a silicone chip doubles every 18 months.

Ok so if every 18 months I can get double the transistors(double the capacity) on my flash card that is the same size and money, how is that not related to storage?
2GB Sd =$5 now, 8GB = $5 next gen (3 years)
Final* Word on Game Delays:
The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.
Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.
Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.
