the pricier it is, the better hardware will be inside. for people who simply want the best experience +/- 100$ is irrelevant.
5.5 TFLOPS should guarantee an excelent VR experience for years to come and that's all that matters imo.

Maybe they were able to negotiate with the ones who make the Hardware and will release the console early than the Scorpion because of the PS4's success.
According to OsirisBlack, Sony's first party developers have the 5.5tf Neo.

I particularly like the Neogaf-Insider moron who "knows" that the cpu is a 2.1GHz Jaguar (sometimes also suddenly a 2.4Hz Jaguar) assembly...
AMD NEVER commissioned to develop a Jaguar core in 14nm technology. This is well known for everyone who'd take the pain to do some semiconductor research. The reason is pretty obvious: why spend $100-200M on engineering a processor architecture that was badly outdated mabye a year or two ago? It's not like AMD have the money to throw out the window and better stuff incoming (Zen, Zen lite).

Except now instead of using DF to try and find the difference between 1080p and 900p with virtually all other visual aspects bieng identical we should now have nothing but 1080p bare minimum with much better quality textures and other elements plus even some 4k sprinkled in, moreso on Scorpio based on rumored specs. Seems like a win win for everyone.

The very first info I got and shared on here was about two different models being considered which was also well before Scorpio specs were revealed. Suggesting its reactionary is also suggesting that Sony knew about MS plans and their system specs all along. That sounds more like fantasy than anything I have posted.
So that draws a line under that nonsense.
