Scoobes said: Well, can't say we weren't warned but people were still stupid enough to believe the lies and vote to leave. A lot of my friends are genuinely contemplating leaving the country (I'm talking born and bred Brits here, not disillusioned EU migrants that at least have somewhere to go back to). Personally I will have to wait and see what the effect will be when the dust settles. Never been more ashamed to be British. We're the joke of the World at the moment and half the population don't even realize it. |
are you serious?
do you have any idea how much EU policies were weakening the UK? do you think pulling in loads of immigrant workers into your country would help? what it does is lower the amount lower/ middle class workers are paid and takes away jobs. It also puts mega stress on the country because you have to provide social welfare to those let in.
also you can't possibly think being part of an organization that CONTROLS your country's decision making would be a positive thing? the UK hasn't even been capable of making large scale world decisions without the EU in decades.
sorry, but no, you've been steered by the media and seem to be under some sort of allusion that there is power in being part of the EU. newsflash: its a bloated mess of an organization with half of its members struggling to stay afloat and no organized central government; which is why it fails at making decisions reasonably quickly or efficiently.
the only ones that largescale country collaborations like the EU helps are big money and big corporations whom want access to cheap labor, cheap ways (without restrictions) to move money around, and fewer restrictions on moving good arounds worldwide. It doesn't help the little guys (which are the majority of us)

No, the mass media was steering towards Brexit and used lies and misinformation to get there. Private owned media moguls were pushing for Brexit as they get more influence over UK policy decisions whereas the EU is too big to take notice. On Friday morning a number of lies used in the campaign were taken back. They didn't wait long to admit their dishonesty.
Here's the kicker though, if we want any decent standard of living and prosperity, we'll enter negotiations with the EU and they'll impose a bunch of rules on us anyway. The difference is, we won't have anywhere near as much of a say because we've pulled out. The other 27 countries can decide whatever they want and Britain won't be able to veto; we either put up or shut up. So where has this magic control come from? It's the illusion of control and I think that's going to become apparent in the coming months when people realise our politicians are just as "in control" as they have always been and that we should have been holding them to account instead of using the EU as a scapegoat.
Also, the immigration thing is total bollocks. The amount of immigration the UK gets is a lot less than people think and surveys showed the British people on average overestimated the number of immigrants by over 10-fold. All the major studies showed the immigration was also a net contributor to the economy and many of our public services rely on migrant labour because we've done such a terrible job of training people or retaining them in these public posts. This isn't mainstream media, this is actual policy guiding research I'm talking about here. As for social and public services being drowned in people, these aren't EU issues, these are domestic level failures to keep social and public services running at an acceptable standard. The EU is simply a scapegoat. Some of the leave campaigners have even suggested (on the sly) they'd want immigration to increase... so much for that then.
And what large-scale world decisions haven't we been able to make? We've been to war without the EU. We've negotiated trade deals with China, without help from the EU. Via the EU we also had a better chance of influencing Europe to do what we wanted on the World stage. That influence is now largely diminished.
Also, large-scale businesses aren't the only ones to benefit. Small, innovative companies have funds they can secure from the EU, especially if there was collaboration between companies/groups in different member states. If you want to setup a small, innovative company you'll find it a lot easier to collaborate on projects with some of the best minds accross an entire continent. That's also ignoring the fact that EU money got poured into the most deprived areas of the UK, areas which the UK government happily ignored for generations and were then lied to during the referendum campaign. Cornwall for instance is now asking for guarantees they'll still receive over £60 million the EU was investing in the region even though they voted to leave.
No matter how bloated or messy the EU can be, it wasn't what failed our Country. Our Government failed our country and by proxy us, for not holding them to account.
