Watch Dogs 2 won't feature the map-unlocking towers familiar to players of Ubisoft's open world games.

Towers have been an integral part of progression in Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and even The Crew, and the original Watch Dogs used a version of them to allow for exploration around its version of Chicago.

However, speaking to Eurogamer, creative director Jonathan Morin has confirmed that Watch Dogs 2 is making a break from the UbiTemplate: "It's not a game where you open your map and everything's there. There are no towers. You just explore the world."

Well the towers are not a bad idea for Assassin Creed, but in other games it is a bit annoying.

Now where is the fun in that?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I liked the "tower" places in Watchdogs where you go to unlock a region. Mostly fun when it was heavily guarded. It gives a small feel of accomplishment in the game.
So, I'm all in for game features that unlock important parts of the game and aren't just for show like collecting stupid flags or such crap.

This isn't the first Ubisoft open world game to drop the tower mechanic btw. In Far Cry Primal you also unlocked the map by exploring, there was a radius around your character that unlocked the map, and you could expand that radius with upgrades.

Didn't know that. Haven't played Primal.

The upgrade thing sounds better.
