Note: for the sake of this experiment please act as if backward compatibility doesn't exist. I can already smell people trying to outgame the contest

Crap I missed this the first time I read the OP and was going make a really good post/reasons on Option 1 but now I have to think a little and post later as it opens up the other options way more but if it did exists Option 1 would be the best with Wii/X1 BC by far in my opinion.

Do remasters count?

Oh, my option doesn't exist... : P

Yeah, I considered that one, but I thought it would dominate the others.

Yeah, I guess it does have a more ideal mix. The big PS2 library, the 360 had a dominating one during the 7th gen, and the Wii U... is there.

Though personally, I built my combo based around the Wii U, haha. Despite how poor it's done I really love some of the games it got this gen. Smash Bros, Splatoon, XCX, MK8, Mario Maker, Wooly World, there are quite a bit of greats on the lil console.

I went with GCN, 360, and PS4.

Reasoning: GCN is one of the few consoles I have never owned. Most all of that will be new to me. 360 was a fantastic console last gen and while I would be missing out on a couple of PS3 exclusives, the remasters on PS4 would hold me over. PS4 because its a jrpg renaissance presently and that is the spot to be for that.

I'm with you 100%. WiiU has some all-time classics!

Option 3. I love the PS3 to death, it needs to be in the mix! On top of that, the original Xbox is the best Xbox ever in my humble opinion, so that's fine. The Wii U is also great, so I'm good.

Option 2, basically because of the PS2 alone. It was such an awesome console all around, with groundbreaking games.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I'm actually having a terrible time answering my own question

I honestly don't know which to pick!

That's easy. Option 2 (GCN, 360, PS4)

PS4 has the strongest hardware and best game support of all 8th gen consoles and due to remasters you can also play the best PS3 games
Xbox 360 had great first party games and phenomenal 3rd party support, most 360-versions even performed better than the PS3 version
GCN had very good first party games and the 3rd party support was still okay, most GC-versions of multi-platform games performed as well as the Xbox-version and better than the PS2-version
