Forums - Sony - New Dual Shock 4 controller confirmed

A new DS4 has potential to fix a lot of issues with the current model. some of the things I'd like to see;

-Bluetooth 5.0 as mentioned by Conina
-A built in mic to help voice search and navigation features, and bring it up to date with the rest of the multimedia devices on themarket.
-A bigger battery for longer charges. Needs to last a good 20+ hours like DS3, especially when used as a tv remote withPS Vue.
-Improved L2/R2 triggers. Current design fails after a few 100 hours of gameplay.I have three broken DS4's with a bum trigger.
-USB Type C, just to bring it up to the current standard.

The above would make the DS4 a nearly perfect controller. If they can't make it a standard I'd pay a hefty price for a premium model withthose features.

Nothing wrong with the current one, why fix whats not broken.

"Nothing wrong"? Wouldn't you prefer a better battery life, that gets you through the day without recharging?

Good point

Ditch the ridiculous light, or at least enable them to be switched off, get a controller without the ridiculous swipe section and the useless Share button as well. It really is a fairly bad controller compared to the DS3. And the sticks are too small and feel wonky as well.

I think you'll find that you are in the minority saying that the DS3 is worse than the DS3. Every time I go back to the DS3 I am reminded how old and horrible those controllers are.

Share button is perfectly fine, it does what it says on the tin. The Swipe is good for quick typing and certain types of games. The light is a requirement of any games using the camera, and will probably be essential for VR.

I have zero interest in any of that though, so why not offer a simpler controller for those who think alike? I'm not buying VR for the PS4, the vast majority of current and future PS4 owners probably won't either and the touch plate in the middle is just downright ridiculous and I honestly cannot see the point of it at all. I choose my mouse and keyboard based on needs and wishes so why not offer different controllers? And the quality issues are widely known so those need to be fixed, battery life is also terrible. I've played 30-40 hours on my wireless 360 controller on my PC without recplacing the batteries, half a day of gaming depletes the DS4 battery.

I hope it is just an elite.

One of my favorite things MS said about the new console cycle was controllers and peripherals move along with systems from now on as it should be.  It would make the upgrade costs less significant if we can just use existing peripherals.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

Agreed. DS4 improved on DS3 in everyway.

Very true. I never cared for any of the DualShock controllers until the DS4 came along. I love my three DS4's.

One to play with.

One fully charged to switch to in six or seven hours.

And one that I keep paired to my PSTV.

A bigger battery is needed and beefier triggers wouldn't hurt.

i hope it has a little touch screen

Sony did say when they were developing the DS4 they experimented with a small screen, but decided to go with the touchpad instead.

Maybe with the NX confirmed to have a small screen on the controller, Sony has decided to revisit a mini screen DS4?

this could just as easily be a very minor redesign to improve analogue rubber abrasion or battery life or sth

Neither of which are a minor redesign but highly requested updates to the controller.

It'd be worth it for just those 2 alone and if bundled with Neo yet another reason to get one. Not sure what what you are expecting from a new DS4. An Oled screen, major redesign?

I don't really know what I changed.

Not really a big fan of the share button - but I guess others probably use it. I don't the light bar.

I don't really care about the battery life either. I'm fine plugging in my controller when I take a break for lunch or to shower etc.

I don't mind the current DS4 battery life either. Just have another one charged and ready to go.

Also it's good to have a spare controller around when one of them gets thrown against the wall accidentally dropped.

I could see a longer battery life and maybe some alterations to the analog sticks/triggers, but I highly doubt something like changing the touchpad or removing the light will be done. As others have said, the light will be needed for VR, so they're not going to remove it, but it's possible they might give an option to disable it completely in a future firmware update.
