Forums - Gaming - Opinions on Neo Vs Scorpio? Surely, MS can't meet tech costs by next year for 4k and VR support....

Best tech Vs cost is....

Scorpio with Oculous. 18 26.87%

Neo with PSVR. 35 52.24%

Vive + PC. 7 10.45%

Oculous + PC 1 1.49%

Other.... 6 8.96%

Total:67

The Scorpio will be an expensive device, $499 or $599 launch is my guess.

Microsoft has more money than God, so it wouldn't be impossible that they just take a hit on hardware to have the upper hand against Sony again in terms of specs.

Nothing to do but to wait and see.

Scorpio wont be cheap, atleast 100$-150$ more than the Neo.
I wouldnt be surprised if its a 549$ console.

Doubt it ll do VR at 4k.
Most games probably wont run at 4k native resolution either.

@Poll: If we're talking value for a VR device, it's easily the PS4 + PSVR. The more you spend after that, be it Neo or Scorpio + Oculus or high end PC + Vive, the nicer an experience you can get.

As for these 8.5 gen consoles and their strategies, Neo should still try to release this year at $400 to get up to a year's head start and soften the disparity. Scorpio should probably not exceed a $500 price tag if it wants to sell, even if that means some loss initially.

Are eithers actual specs even confirmed beyond MS saying its target is 6 tflops and Sony saying yes a new console is in the works?

They could be launching essentially the same machine for all we know.

Guys, the GPU Scorpio is bound to have is $199 at retail now!! In 18 months it's going to be dirst cheap for MS buying in bulk. Mark my words, they saw with Xbone that $499 is too much and they'll easily hit $399.
8 Core Zen processor, probably the full version of Polaris 10 (with 40 CUs and 2560 SPs), aroung 12 GB of RAM - all forming a perfect APU and boom. You have a monster for $399. Maximum $449.

But will it do 4K? I guess, since it's a console. But it's going to be as true of a 4K experience, as X360 was a true FullHD experience GTX 1080 is the entry and bare minimum for 4K and Radeon GPUs are yet to reach that level.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

I don't think they'll be making much of a loss at $499 in fall 2017.

They won't be as price sensitive with Scorpio as they were for the X1. For as long as Scorpio is simply a premium Xbox One versus its own platform they will look for decent margins on the hardware over high unit sales, thats the job of Xbox One S.

I see $499 at launch, $399 once they start trying to phase out Xbox One S and $299 by the time Xbox Two is announced.

Some documentation, some educated speculation.

Topping 6tflops in a console is expected to require a Vega gpu (why it's still so far out), not Polaris and not the 480, whatever it's capable of with a good desktop setup. Pairing that with a Zen cpu would be seriously costly and they would have bragged about it too if they were using it. Really doubt we'll see it debut at $450 or lower unless they want to eat a big loss.

It's weird to me Sony didn't announce the NEO at E3 if it's set to release this year like people think. It's almost like they waited to see what MS had.

With the S still bigger than the ps4 and saying it will/won't boost gams (they need a clear message, it reminds me of X1 launch) they could ride out the ps4 till next year and release something similar to Scorpio pulling a scenario like last times (our system will play your used games, but this time our system does 6 tflops too!).
