Forums - Gaming - [Opinion] Sony pulled NEO from E3 because they realized it would be the weakest of the 3 consoles within a year

I'm pretty sure there's no rumours saying NX is going to be 3x more powerful than PS4..

Common sense is a great alternative for not knowing exact facts. We are at a point where nothing Sony's competitors do will affect them negatively. They have the current console market on lock for the next years. People will not suddenly buy a Scorpio because the Neo is a teraflops slower. Microsoft does not have the exclusives and NX is targeting a completely different market.

So no, they don't have to hide anything because nothing what competitors do will negatively impact their sales.

You confuse common sense with assumptions. The 360 last generation was selling much better than the PS3, but Sony managed to turn the tides of it, comercially speaking of course. That is an example to show that you can turn the tides of things. But most importanly, Scorpio will be a new generation, by the way Microsoft explained it.They said Scorpio would have backwards compatibility, but never said the other way around would work. And even if it did, then the console would have no appeal at all, since it couldnt use the full potential of the console(or the XOne version would suck to the point that the true version to play is going to be the Scorpio one).By that I mean, Microsoft is going for a new market. And we dont know what the NX is, and we dont know what market it is targeting.

So yeah, if Sony gets cocky because it is winning now, we will have a PS3 situation all over again.

No, that is an example of how SONY can easily turn tides. Simply because they have the stronger lineup. Sony is able to come back from behind because it is the much much stronger brand than Nintendo or Microsoft. And currently they're so much in the lead, it's not even funny anymore. They have the lead, they have the stronger brand. They have been the most successful console manufacturer since they entered the race.

The competors have nothing to beat it. Sony is too far ahead.

We don't even know how powerful the NX is

rather, I think they didn't bother showing the Neo at E3 because they don't need to.. the NX isn't being revealed and the Scorpio was just recently confirmed (afaik)

They said fully compatible.

"Project Scorpio will launch at the Holiday season in 2017, but most notable is the fact that all games and all accessories will work across the Xbox One, the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio."  https://www.engadget.com/2016/06/13/microsoft-announces-a-new-super-powered-xbox-console-project-sc/

This is a mid-generation upgrade.  That's why this is not a big deal and most likely not a game-changer.

They might have decided they wouldn't reveal it now because they knew Microsoft would make their announcement, and that by revealing it later, it would allow them to adjust their final specs to match or beat it.

One thing is for sure, 6TFLOPS of power in a home console is gonna be sweet! I know now that I will never own a [regular] XBox One. Gotta wait until the Scorpio releases before I buy a new XBox console.

I really don't think the NX even matches the rumored PS4K specs. Nintendo's recent history gives no indication that they'd go for powerful hardware that beats or matches its competitors. So I don't buy that "Sony realized the PS4K would be the weakest of the 3" one bit.

sony turned the tide around on ps3 by investing in first party games to release an steady stream of first party exclusives.

so...

A) having watch this conference it was a year of reshowing the games announced last year and forza horizon 3 (which in itself isn't surprising since it is an annual franchise now).  clearly ms is making no such investment in their first party.

B) ms announced that all their games are coming to pc.  while in theory this is a great thing history has shown that gamers do not like games that are not true exclusives.  their exclusives will now always be viewed as "exclusives" instread of exclusives.

C) ps4 and ps4 neo is stated forwards/backwards compatible.  this means 3rd parties will develop a game targeting scorpio's hardware exclusively.  it doesn't matter that scorpio isn't advertised as BC with xbox one,.. developers don't like making games for small user bases to begin and you saw this with the long tail of support for 360/ps3 heading into this gen.  with playstation is mandating "last gen" support on neo that tail will only last longer.  no 3rd party will do anything substantial with scorpios specs for years unless the game is fully excusive to the platform which would be financial sucide.

without 3rd party exclusives,.. with few if any 1st party "exclusives",.. ms is going to have a hard time marketing why the upgrade is needed.

Sony was on top of the world in 2005. Did that carry on into 2007? No. The PS4 is set for the next year or so, but we have NO CLUE whatsoever how Neo/Scorpio/NX will pan out. Insisting that Sony is invincible because the PS4 is doing well is not the best thing to do.

Sony won the gen despite coming from behind. Name another manufacturer who ever managed it.

I don't care how many Wiis were sold. It is a dead console while PS3s are still selling. Wii did nothing for Nintendo's brand strength, if anything it weakened it. While the PS3 managed to strengthen the brand, spawning the new IPs that are currently also carrying the PS4.

MS will not be able to ever defeat Sony simply because of the much much weaker brand and the missing exclusives. Nintendo is already dead and the Wii U proves its dwindling fan base.

I actually think Sony stole plans for Scorpio from MS too late to create one upgrade to their PS4. Otherwise, why would MS have a system ready before them.

And by Sony having a system ready after MS you mean PS4Neo releasing this year and Scorpio next year? Want to say MS stole plans instead then?
