Forums - Gaming - E3 is in 2 days and I am barely excited

I try to be an all-around kind of gamer, but there really is no hidig that I am primarily a Nintendo fan. Now while I am upset at the lack of content this year, what I am really upset about is the fact that we already know everything. First Zelda will be shown off, then Sun and Moon, then whatever other indie titles they have in store for everyone. My point being, it seems like they already told us everything and there wont be any huge surprise to generate any hype. Its not just Nintendo though, other companies have been doing this too. Playtonic just realeased a Yooka-Laylee trailer calling it their "E3 trailer" even though its a month before E3. Microsoft and Sony have been hinting at upcoming projects and DLC that will be announced. I see all these discussion threads about how E3 has gone to shit and companies should just do their own thing. But really the problem here is that companies cant keep things hidden until its actually time to show them off.

Imagine if we had no game announcements until E3, basically giving us January - June to think about what might be coming. So much more hype would be generated and E3 would feel like it has purpose again. But at this point its starting to feel like an Apple announcement where they reveal the name of their newest product and then say they will be announcing it in a few months. Imagine if other companies did that. "Hi this is Reggie from Nintendo and we will be announcing Super Mario Galaxy 3 in September." It just doesnt make any sense. Nintendo told us last year that Pikmin 4 was almost complete, but they just told us outright instead of holding it off for the release of the NX probably. But the hype is now gone since everyone knows it is coming now.

so for that reason, E3 has not got me hyped this year. the stuff is already here, theyre just going to tell us about it. we need more surprises and excitement

Even then, I'm pretty excited. And I'm not a fan of 3D Zeldas. Maybe I'm too positive

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Each to his own. I'm hyped for Zelda and Dragon Quest VII, FFXV, Ni No Kuni 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, (if there is any showing) I was excited for Crash but I think the Skylanders thing crushed my spirits, anything Sonic Team might show, and any overall surprises Nintendo and Sony might have in store. I mentioned that I don't play games as often as I used to so I get excited over any new games that I might have a chance to play.

Zero hype is the best way to watch e3: makes the surprises all the more surprising.

Pretty much this I'm afraid, with the news that NX will not be shown at all I don't have any hype for Nintendo's showing, but on the up side that means they can only do better than I expect, as in Sony and MS there is a lot of things that could happen, a lot to be excited about, all they can do is dissappoint fans I think.

After EA I will say my hype took a nose dive.

Being a Nintendo fan during E3 is like doing a lot of labor work for nothing and trying to genuinely enjoy it.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I agree to certain extend.I do agree in the aspect that companies dont seem to get that E3 is mostly about the surprises, and you can see the dissapointment about this whole "announce before the show so that people will tune in for that" in the EA conference.Outside of saying that Star Wars Battlefield 2 is in the works(and show nothing of it), we basically knew everything that was on the show before hand.Sure, there was Fifa 17 and Madden, but at this point it is a given that there is 0one each year.Imagine if we knew nothing of Battlefield 1 and in the show they came in and said:"here is the game and it takes place in WW 1!" It would make SOOOO much more impact than just releasing a trailer like they did, at the very least with the core gamers.

But I dont agree with that 6 month media silence.Thats just stupid. The best would be, if a comapny has a big game, and is ready for announcement 1 to 2 motnhs prior to E3, then hold it off and show at the show, because it will create more hype for the game and bigger buzz, and that will make for a better news for us.

But yeah, taking out Nintendo which is a bummer(Though Im still VERY excited to see Zelda), Im really looking foward for the Microsoft and Playstation conferences.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

But didn't we all know EA was going to be awful? They just aren't good at these.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
