Isn't the thread title technically incorrect?
This reminds me of the "almost 10 million sold" non-figure.

Take that to Halo Franchise Director, ask the mf for a receipt.
I just copy and paste.

I don't think we got any numbers for January, but I imagine it was a decent drop. Might've been at about 1.8M at retail as of the end of January. Assuming the U.S. still represents about 60% of Halo sales, that means the global tally would've been about 3M. So, we can probably assume about 40% digital (including bundled copies), which is well outside the norm for a retail-release title. Still, 5 million globally after 3 months is a big drop-off from previous games. Halo 3 was at 4.83M in the U.S. alone as of the end of 2007 (so probably around 8M globally), and Reach and Halo 4 probably weren't too far behind in their first three months. |
Pretty much. While Halo still sells well, there is no denying it is far from what it used to be.

Can't compare it to the days where FPS were mostly Arena style and the military twitch ones didn't exist back then.

Copy and pasting threads is against forum rules.
Posting misleading thread titles is also against forum rules. We use shipped vs sold to distinguish end user sell through, might want to look into that
Good for halo. I bought it but haven't played it yet.
l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble? If not, I'll keep looking.

The thing is, Halo sales remained remarkably stable from Halo 2 (released in 2004) on towards Halo 4 (released in 2012). The series ran right through the rise of CoD and similar "modern" military-style "twitch" FPSs, yet never lost steam. It wasn't until 343i's mishandling of the series in the form of the MCC's disastrous first few months that we saw the series go into decline. 343i has done a much better job with Halo 5, and hopefully it's enough to have gotten them back in gamers' good graces. If Halo 6 ends up exhibiting a rebound in sales for the series, we can say that Halo 5 was a fluke dragged down by the MCC's multiplayer woes. They may also get more people back into the series by supporting local split-screen and proper offline LAN play. |
It's much easier to get into twitch based FPS games than Halo. People flock to where their friends are playing and COD, Battlefield and others have a greater presence in the market than Halo. Those games started hitting tens of millions in single consoles after 2010 and military FPS cemented itself the king of sales period.
You're right TMCC was a huge dent in 343i's momentum with Halo but hopefully with a better hardware and writer, they can make no compromise and deliver on all fronts.

How much do you see Halo 5 selling LT? |
Hard to say after this information. I was originally looking at about 7 million, but if this 5 million shipped at 3 months is close-ish to 5 million sell through then I think it could get higher than that. 8 million maybe, but probably not 9 million.

Bullshit, they can only ship what retailers order. That argument might hold for the first month or so when retailers over estimate demand but they certainly won't continue that way for months post release. |
Well, that's technically true but it didn't stop MS from so insanely overshipping the Titanfall bundle to the point that there were piles and piles of them still showing up all over the place when Holiday 2014 rolled around, several months after the bundle stopped being produced. MS also is a large company with a fairly successful console, they have more leverage when negotiating sales to retailers than Nintendo with the Wii U. Just saying, MS loves to push as many through the channels as possible. Nintendo has had a hard time this whole gen both getting stores to buy large quantities and meeting demand when it ramps up.

Historically IPs generally dont stay this successful this long and its still doing very respectable numbers.
