Essentially, Nintendo isn't manufacturing any more Wii U in any significant capacity.

They have approximately $150 million worth of Wii U inventory at the end of March....valued at an average selling price to retailers of $220 per unit, that's approximately 700K Wii U units they have in inventory to sell-through.

That extra 100K to make up the 800K projections is for the tiny bit of Wii U manufacturing they've done since then just to round out the fiscal year.

But the point behind the 800K is that by March 2017 they will have essentially depleted their Wii U inventory so they can hit the ground running with NX without taking write-off losses which would significantly impact profitability.

So, majority of the forecast is already in inventory?

Yep, Nintendo has ~700K Wii U units in inventory before the fiscal year even began. That's why the projections are so low....they're clearly trying to get rid of the Wii U as soon as logistically possible.

PS4 doesn't have a big lead over Xbox One in US. Short of 2 million lead. It would be tough ask for Uncharted to beat Halo in its strongest territory. It's actually crazy to think that you can say Uncharted could beat Halo in the USA without getting laughed at

Well Halo when you look at the install base for the xbox one when halo launched compared to the ps4 when uncharted launched its over a 5ml lead for the ps4. It's not crazy to think that Uncharted could outsell Halo in the US considering that it had the biggest marketing than any other uncharted game and the install base is over 5ml lead when it launched compared to the launch of Halo.

One was released in time for holiday, one was released in May.

Woopdidy.

Do you have any idea if those 700k in inventory are recent over production or from years ago? Have they over-produced after the launch?

I don't have specifics of Nintendo's supply chain, but I can almost guarantee you that Nintendo has repurposed Wii U consoles built long ago into more modern SKUs as part of cost-saving measures.

They have frequently suffered through a glut of inventory (prepared in anticipation for a Wii U success) that they've been trying to work through...Nintendo had varied success at reducing it.

Now that it's mid-2016, looks like Nintendo wants to finally put the nail in the coffin and get rid of the last remaining stock before it becomes worthless on their books and they have to clearance it. No sense in manufacturing new consoles now when their impending worthlessness is only a few months away.

October really isnt a holiday. Also Halo was only tracked in October npd for 4 days while uncharted was tracked for about 20 days.

Majority of Halo's sales aways came from USA while Uncharted aways had a bigger Worldwide influence, and Uncharted 4 sold more than Uncharted 3's Launch and i think that there were more PS3 on USA in that time than PS4 when Uncharted 4 launched.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

End of October is a damn bit better than May. Anyway yeah a few more weeks and a bigger install base gave Uncharted a chance but still didnt beat Halo in the US.That still would of been laughed at to suggest last gen.

Off topic Uncharted easily beat Halo WW first week so a damn big chunk of the 2.7m first week came from  outside the US. Not so hard to believe when over 50% of xbox ones are sold in US compared to around 30% of all PS4s.

Yeah, I just expected Uncharted to do more than Halo. Halo is still a pretty big series here in the US so it makes sense and Uncharted is sold more WW so its not much of a big deal.

Yeah. They have week one sales so it could be a case of them putting a too big of a percentage of those sales in the US. Week one ww totals also look a little too high considering its 2.7m with digital.
