Yep, Nintendo has ~700K units in inventory before the fiscal year even began. That's why the projections are so low....they're clearly trying to get rid of the Wii U as soon as logistically possible.

Woopdidy.

Do you have any idea if those 700k in inventory are recent over production or from years ago? Have they over-produced after the launch?

I don't have specifics of Nintendo's supply chain, but I can almost guarantee you that Nintendo has repurposed Wii U consoles built long ago into more modern SKUs as part of cost-saving measures.

They have frequently suffered through a glut of inventory (prepared in anticipation for a Wii U success) that they've been trying to work through...Nintendo had varied success at reducing it.

Now that it's mid-2016, looks like Nintendo wants to finally put the nail in the coffin and get rid of the last remaining stock before it becomes worthless on their books and they have to clearance it. No sense in manufacturing new consoles now when their impending worthlessness is only a few months away.
