Final Fantasy Tactics, Gran Turismo, and Tekken 3 make Playstation a slam-dunk for me. FFT might be my favorite game of all-time, Gran Turismo was an absolute revelation that I fell in love with, and Tekken 3 was just badass. While I'm not big on Xenogears compared to other great RPGs, it was still good.

I gotta admit that Bioshock is making this exceedingly difficult to choose Nintendo, not to mention COD4 and Orange Box. But I'll go with Ninty '98 thanks to Ocarina and Banjo.

1998 was far from the best year for Nintendo. If anything, that was within Nintendo's dark ages, which lasted from the launch of the N64 until the launch of the DS Lite. 1998 was when Nintendo fell into distant second behind Sony. No matter how you spin it, 1998 was a bad year for Nintendo, Zelda at the very end of it didn't save it.

Wah!? :o

They've had their ups and downs sure, but calling that whole period the 'dark ages' is a bit harsh don't you think?

I don't think so, it was a period marked with bad hardware decisions, huge software droughts, and a significant decline in fandom. At the same time, PlayStation was sweeping in and steamrolling Nintendo in sales and software support. Nintendo lost all their most important second/exclusive third party support during this period: Square, Enix, DMA/Rockstar, Rareware. Parties that went from close exclusive supporters to no longer supporting Nintendo consoles. Nintendo was seen as passé through this period. They began to reverse this around the time of the GBA SP, but it wasn't until the DS Lite that things were clearly turning around to brighter days. So everything in between the end of the SNES and the DS Lite was a really dark time for Nintendo fans from the NES and SNES era.

Both were awesome. (Nintendo & Playstation 1998)

And the Xbox 2007 was pretty boredom to be honest.

For me it is Playstation 1 in 1998.
Tekken 3 and Crash Bandicoot 3 are two of my favorite games of all time!

1998 is a great year then for games :p

Banjo, (best game of the 5th gen) Ocarina, (second best game of the gen) F Zero X and Pokemion R/B all in one year takes the cake for me.

i think you have history a bit mixed up when it comes to Nintendo handhelds. The early-mid 90s were a time of decline for Nintendo handhelds but the late 90s-early 00s saw massive sales thanks to Pokemon & Gameboy Color.

Nintendo was consistently shipping 15-20 million handhelds per year and Pokemon alone sold over 100 million during these "dark ages".

PS1 without a doubt for me.
