Forums - Gaming - Three Things That Drive You Nuts About Let's Players

Only really watch Two Best Friends & RadBrad.

Only thing that bugs me about RB is his tendency to make 10-15 minute episodes (at least do 25, man) and sucking up to his fans with the same lines like every video. I do appreciate how he knows to collect stuff, level up, and do other boring stuff "off-camera."

TBF is a love/hate relationship. When they're funny, they are on fire. The best is when they stumble upon bugs, playing a game that's entertaining for all the wrong reasons, or are legitimately super impressed by a game. But sometimes they try too hard to be funny, get stuck and spend whole episodes figuring out how to progress, and are incredibly guilty of talking over cutscenes, missing key info, and then ignorantly bitching about the story later. They also screw with the fanbase a bit too much. The early Shitstorms, Rustlemanias, and Machinima videos are all amazing. Their LPs of the crappy Silent Hill games are more entertaining than they have any right to be.

I used top watch a lot of let's play videos but I've noticed that majority of them are trying just too hard to be funny/overly loud (or they were like that and I didn't notice until now idk)

So that would be my main problems:

1) trying to be funny and failing miserably (mainly the use of sexist/homophobic comments)
2) Being too loud and labeling it as being "excited or pumped up" about a game when all they really do is shout for no reason
3) Bad editing

Yeah, it would be great if they finished it soon. I'd also like to see Jesse finish his Skyrim let's play at some point, with some mods of course. Jesse claims that the only let's play he'll never finish is Lightning Returns, but he has 4 other let's plays that currently remain unfinished (Skyrim, Terraria, Dragon Age Inquisition, and Omikron) so it could take him awhile to get caught up.

Lol, I watched that flipout from both ends. I watched him playing the game that caused him to flip out (Pro Gamer Manager), then I watched the section of her stream where you can hear Jesse flipping out next door while she laughs at him, and then he rushes into her office a few seconds later to tell her just how awful the game is.

It's honestly the ebst part of Jesse is him being silly at random moments or playing off of someone's joke. He's probably one of the 4 people I look forward to watching/listening on co-optional podcast besides Crendor. I'd also love if TB and Jesse started a Starbound LP when it reaches 1.0, it's like Terraria/NMS in space.

I didn't know he had an LP of Skyrim but now you;ve mentioned it's not been completed means I'll probably wait till he goes back to it.

The original poster's number 3 is probably my biggest issue. In general, I'm not a huge fan of let's plays, but it seems like overacting and trying too hard to be funny or be anything they're not naturally is all too common.

Playing a game before and then pretending to play it for the first time.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

They did do some starbound and it was pretty funny. Also I doubt he will ever go back to skyrim. He didn't beat the "story" - but the story he built up finished. He builds up a story involving a lizardman, a dog, and a horse. So while the main story isn't finished - the one he made up is is finished so it is a pretty good stopping point.

You should try it.

Yeah I love what the guy makes so I'll probably give it a gander, I'm still currently getting through the rest of his/TB's Terraria LP.

Now I feel like playing the game, dammit (mind you I haven't touched it since before that massive update).

1. Overacting everything.
2. Obnoxious thumbnails with extremely punchable faces and clickbait titles.
3. Substituting personality and entertainment value with a pretty face/tits.

Guess those apply to online personalities in general, not just streamers.

I never watch Let's Play. I don't understand why anyone would subject thenselves to that.

1. People who bitch and moan when it's clearly their fault that they're failing
2. Those who do nothing but scream excessively in childish voices
3. Those who are just trying waaay too hard to get a laugh

I think the key with Let's Players is you have to have some affinity for the person outside of their Let's Plays. For instance, one of my guilty pleasures dating back to 2007 has been the Angry Video Game Nerd... I've never been quite sure why I like the series as his videos are so absurdly immature and toilet-humor focused (minus the toilet itself), but I just like them lol

Anyway, because of that I enjoy watching James Rolfe try out games simply because I'm already fond of him, and his out-of-character personality is actually quite soft-spoken and reserved. Funny guy.

Otherwise, for the more complex and difficult PC games I have two recommendations for those of you who like Grand Strategy/4x/city builder games:

Arumba: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCISPcad-6svNxgViVr_syvA
Quill18: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbx1TZgxfIauUZyPuBzEwZg

For FPS and survival games I recommend (though he can be a little cruel lol):

TheDevildoggamer: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW07alAefFXWdo7RgEDtBcQ

Really, outside of watching James & Mike, the only time I watch Let's Plays is to actually see if I'd enjoy the more complex or involved games that are hard to judge from mere description.

Only LPer I watch these days is Chuggaaconroy, and only occasionally.

I think my main problem with them is when they constantly jump cut all the time just cause they can't get one clean take of the game, I mean I know games aren't easy, but it can be somewhat messy.

I also just find it unusual when people talk about completely unrelated things when playing a game (I think Chuggaa for example once spouted an Undertale reference during his Platinum playthrough for no reason other than to please the Undertale fans.)
