I m pretty much w you-  If i was home by myself, i might try to get away clean and call the police-  ut if my kids were in the house-  I woud assume maximum threat to them and would "shoot first"   -    When a criminal robs a person "in person" or break ito their home" ther is no way to know what they are capable of -  innocent people are killed all the time for no apparent reason or practical reason-  they hand over the money and get shot anyway-

Many of you would end up in worse trouble than your assailant for the things you are reportedly willing to do in nonlethal (or not yet/no longer lethal) altercations, sometimes rightfully so. Continuum of Force, people.

Good point. I was always taught to shoot in the area of the arms/legs, and only in the head/heart if it's a life or death situation(i.e they're set out to kill you).

A gun is a lethal weapon. It's use in a defense scenario is pretty much only justified if life is in immediate lethal danger. If you're shooting a person ANYWHERE (or even just a warning shot), it better fall under those parameters. You can't just wing them if the altercation has not yet reached that lethal level of danger. You shouldn't really try to wing anyone under almost any circumstance, anyway. If a situation is bad enough to justify a shot to the arm or leg, it should be bad enough to justify a shot to the vitals, to say nothing of how less reliable a target that is (aim center mass).

Show me where I threatened a ban and I'll give you a cookie. I was trying to diffuse a stupid debate in which both sides refused to find common ground by bringing up the fact that things like that only ever escalate to a ban, not mutual understanding. 

That might have been a tad harsh of me. While I don't believe a burglar presents any value to the world I wouldn't kill them unless i felt my family was endangered. If I heard a noise in my house in the middle of the night and walked into let's say the kitchen to see someone looking through stuff I'm not gunna ask politely for them to leave. They are gunna get the shit beat out of them. If I am armed I would probably warn him to put his hands up but if I cannot see there hands and I thing they may have a gun I will not warn him. I'll shooter in the leg or something if I can. If there are 2 or more people probably have to shoot automatically, legs if I can help it. If they have guns obviously shoot to kill. Like I said tho how hostile I am depends on how threatened I am.

 and funny enough I have been broken into before. Some guy fresh out of jail walked right into my house before. I roughed him up a bit and sat on him while the cops came. A homeless dude tried to come into my hotel room once. I woke up to him swiping at the lock(the kind that lets ur door open a few inches to see who it is) with a stick. He lucky enough to just get a shove.
