Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Wii U lost out on a lot more than just Zelda

I agree with everything here. This was definitely an experimental time for Nintendo. Rumors say that the current software on NX is being made in the same fashion of the NES days in terms of relative quality and output.

Ah, those? I don't think they are needed anymore. The 3DS can already make 3D Pokemon battles, so really a game when you just battle is kind of redundant.

Pokemon Stadium had the mini games though which were the best part, hell Stadium 1 & 2s miningames alone are better than Mario Party 10

How many mini-game compilation does the WiiU really need? Nintendoland, Wii Sports U, Mario Party 10, Wario Ware...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Agree with 1, 3, 4, 6.

2- As bad as it is, it's still a main Mario Party game.

5- We never had those on consoles, sadly =(

7- Agree. At least we got games like EarthBound (NES and SNES) and DK64 this time. But still, no excuse.

8- It's used for a mic and that's it. I don't like buying tons of different accessories anyways so I don't care.

9- It's a sensor bar, it's only used to play Wii games entirely through the Gamepad IIRC. The camera was pretty useless too.

10- Most games on other consoles barely have 4-player local multiplayer nowadays, so I don't think this is a problem. But I agree more games could've used it.

You seriously thinking of not buying the NX?

It will have to have at .....actually no numbers.....it will have to impress me first.

Isn't "existence" already a very high criterium on your impression scale?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

When people talk about the Wii U and how much it lost out on, most people jump directly to Zelda. Its the first nintendo console not to have a dedicated Zelda game. But there are actually a lot more reasons to be upset over the Wii U's soon-to-be death than that. personally Im not the biggest Zelda fan, though i do enjoy the games i have played, i just dont want people thinking thats the only thing Wii U ownders didnt get. so now Im going to list ever way the Wii U did not live up to its potential.

1. No 3D mario platofrmer. We got 3D World but that was an experimental type mario game that mixed elements of 2D and 3D gameplay. it didnt count and don tell me it did. it was not Sunshine 2, it was not Galaxy 3, it was something nobody wanted.

2. No real Mario Party. Mario Party 10 is the definitive worst Mario Party game we ever got. it reused sound effects, graphics, and models from a few of the last party games they had worked on. not to mention people really didnt like the car mechanics and it seems like now we are doomed to keep it.

lets just get these out of the way- 3. no Metroid at all... 4. the worst Animal Crossing ever... 5. no real pokemon title either... 6. also no real kirby

7. Virtual Console is abysmal, you can get like what, not even 100 titles from each platform? i think GBA and DS line just hit 10 or 20 games.

8. on the bottom of the gamepad you will see an accessory port. no accessories were ever fully developed for it. it just exists. the Gamepad just has a useless port built into it. there were ideas for gamepad attachments, but most were scrapped very early on.

9. on the top of the gamepad there is wha I believe to be an infared sensor a lot like what the 3DS has. also never used. and dont tell me its to use with the sensor bar because i have been able to use motion controls on the gamepad without having the censor bar even plugged in.

10. the Wii U can support up to 8 players and to my knowledge only 2 games actually utilize that feature, correct me if im wrong.

those are all the things i wanted to mention. now let me clarify this- this is not specifically a list of things Nintendo should have done, and I am saying anything about the hardware or specs. i focused on potential- things the console could have done in its current state, but didnt.

1. Can't speak for anybody else but i was happy with it.

2. I have to take your word for it. I never liked Mario Party. I got a free copy of WiiU Party but I never played it. We did get Nintendo Land, though...

3. Yep. Only a mini game. Sucks since Metroid is one of my favorite series. I even liked Other M. N64 didn't get a Metroid, either. I wonder if the series is financially viable anymore.

4.  I don't know. My kid plays Animal Crossing but she was happy with the portable version. I heard the WiiU game sucked, though.

5. What home console ever gets a real Pokémon?

6.  I don't know. I thought it did get a Kirby game, though. What makes it a "real Kirby" compared to something like Epic Yarn?

7. You're probably right. I don't know. I used my Ouya to get every old school (pre Gamecube)Nintendo game I wanted!

8. Doesn't every Nintendo console have these expansion port's that get ignored?

9. I used it to play BC Wii games. Your Wii remote works with it.

10. I think every console supports a ton of controllers these days. I've never had more than four people at my home wanting to play at one time, though.

Will U was a big disappointment but I still enjoyed it. For a couple of years, it was my most played console. Just think of the good times (Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, MK8, etc) and smile.

While the VC situation does suck, we have to remember that the third parties (Konami Capcom Sega etc) have to deem it worthwhile to put their classics on the storefront. And since the Wii U had less than stellar sales, they probably saw no use in dealing with that whole thing.

Still doesn't justify the lack of a DS VC on the 3DS. I'm so mad about that. If you don't want me to pirate DS games, make them avalible to purchase, Nintendo!

Yeah... These are all reasons why the console bombed. No doubt.

Nintendo is lucky so many people like their handhelds.

I hate how we lost out on features like TVii because the console never quite caught on and virtually no third party support.

Is Zelda cancelled? If not, we still got

-Zelda U, Twilight Princess, and Wind Waker
-a great Mario Kart
-a great Smash Bros
-DKC TF
-Bayonetta 2
-Pikmin 3
-Splatoon
-Some decent party games
-good online
-Amiibo (for better or worse)

It's been a sad few years for the home console but if the numbers aren't there, Nintendo can't be expected to keep throwing money at products that will never sell. If I had it to do over again, I'd still buy one on one. It was fun while it lasted.

maybe i should clarify my point about the pokemon games. the N64 got the stadium games and the gamecube got colosseum and gale of darkness. even the Wii had battle revolution which was something.

Then your initial argument is for nothing, since you know, Pokken is a spin-off pokemon game....

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
