They're definitely around, just not on consoles and not from the big boys. It doesn't help that Capcom transformed a slow-burn survival-horror series into a cinematic shooting series, or that EA destroyed the atmosphere and tension of Dead Space.

But take a look at Frictional Games, Superflat Games, or Playdead. They've all turned out some excellent horror games over the last 6 years.

Not to forget some really small 16-bit horrow games made by the little people, some of them I have talked about before during the month of Halloween xD

Oh yeah, it's amazing what small studios and individuals can accomplish. Look at Jasper Byrne. He developed Lone Survivor almost single-handedly. And it's a scarier (and better) game than something like Resident Evil 6, which cost millions and employed a development staff north of 600 people.

I've heard of it. I never played it, but I heard it was good. It does look scarier and more interesting than RE6. Now that game was a hot mess. It wasn't even scary :

Its not dead. There are a few here and there, like Outlast, Alien Isolation, The Evil Within(though I didnt find this particular game that scary) and so no.But yeah, its a far cry from what it used to be.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

RE lost me when it became more about machine guns, rocket launchers and a convoluted story that till tomorrow makes no sense whatsoever. Once it used to be just about surviving the night or getting outta the city.

Not sure about machine guns, but there have been rocket launchers and convoluted stories in every single Resident Evil game.

in a word,.. indies. but i can't just post a word. so go play indies if that's what you want.

Nothing. Spirit Camera, Fatal Frame V, Her Story, Corpse Party, Kara no Shojo 2.

Can people here stop whining about PT? It was trash from the start. Glad to see Konami cancelled it.

Her Story is horror? How?

This threads shows what happened: the audience is super divisive, too picky about everything and nothing is good enough or like the original horror game.

"Slender is not scary, there are just jump scares, blah..."
"Evil within is too action, not really what i really fell in love with on the origianl resident evil..."
"Outlast is notsurvival horror, you can't do anything, just run"

Its ok, you can do whatever you want with your money, but you can't blame companies for not investing on it. Even if those games sell enough to sustain the developer, i don't think that team make those games would be happy with being target of so many nipticking.

Every genre is diverse. There are people complaining in the fighting genre that Mortal Komat is all flash no substance, that Tekken should adopt a power meter, and King of Fighters AI is way too cheap, etc etc.

RE4 is not scary at all

I dunno, the last decent horror game I played was Dead Space. Some people say Alien Isolation is good, but haven't played it yet.

Why isn't is scary? Sure it's mostly action, but the regenerator scared me so much, I slept with the night light for a couple of days.

Blame FNAF for the most cancerous fandom for any horror game(or indie title in general).

Besides that, I guess they just like JRPG's from seventh gen. hopefully a comeback will be made

There are good indie horror games though. Like Outlast, or Amnesia.

yes i know, but it lost me when those things became the focus of the game. In 1&2 you only got snippets of said convoluted stories from notes and stuff you find dotted atound the game. If you recall you only got a rocket launcher at one point and could use it for no more than 1/2 shots.

the focus shifted more to action and some super human john woo/matrix style action and stuff.
