VGChartz should changes its name to VGAds

Yes 119 56.13%

No 18 8.49%

I just hate the Ads 75 35.38%

Total:212

Yes it's getting increasingly annoying to browse the site now with a metric ton popping up. There are so many ads in fact that one ad now blocks me from seeing another ad and large parts of the site. It's very frustrating and not to mention my browser sometimes crashes when I'm on this site which doesn't happen with any other site I go to.

The preview is about a week or two away. The full new site is still a long way off.

How will the ads be affected?  And does it support mobile devices?

Sadly the ads will remain the same. This is not an area where I have control.

The new website will be responsive so it'll support mobile devices.

£1 is overpriced? do you live in a third world country?

@op, i have to agree, before i was using the supporter program there was times when this site was unusable. i was banned for a few hrs ealier this month and the experience of not having my supporter perks was vomit inducing.

Just because its cheap doen't mean it is overpriced.

The gold supporter is even worst.  Double it a year and I can get an all access pass to watch every NFL game live as well as the last 4 seasons.

Here all you get is some increased displays woopie doo.

The site owner doesn't even make an appareance anymore and hasnt for a good time. The community i what makes this site, so I don't see why we should pay him for it when he makes no effort.

Not a cent of the supporter program goes to ioi. It was created to support the writers, admins and developpers who are members of the community who keep the site alive.

Porn site pop-ups are not this bad

I didn't even know VGC had ads until I opened the site on a different computer..

and let me tell you, I've never done it again :p

Brett is responsible for the ads. If Trucks or I had responsibility we'd dial them back, but we don't, so we can't. I understand why Brett's added more over time

He needs a new car.  His Maserati is getting old.

The problem isn't the ads. It's the ads rendering the site nearly unusable. Brett needs to get his shit together and tell the people he takes ad packages for that Javascript is off limits. I don't mind normal banners and sponsored page load-ins, but slide in ads are fucking bullshit.

VGC is turning like PSN and XBL where for basic functions, you need to pay a monthly fee...

I don't think I will ever be a supporter if it means that the people that don't pay gets raped

Basic functions like not having any ads at all......

I am not saying have no ads... Just have ones that aren't intrusive to the user...

If there are soo many ads that it forces the user to either pay for the supporter program or use adblocker in order to browse the site, it really does end up being a basic function...

This is specially horrible in small screens considering how bad vgc on mobile already is...

The shitty ads aren't an attempt to force people to become supporters. There's no conspiracy. I know most users won't believe me (I wouldn't if I were a regular user and didn't know how stuff worked behind the scenes), but it is the truth.

Brett is responsible for the ads. If Trucks or I had responsibility we'd dial them back, but we don't, so we can't. I understand why Brett's added more over time - because ad rates for this type of media are in decline. But I also understand how it pisses people off. Heck, it makes the site virtually unusable if you work on it, so believe me I understand. I can only suggest installing an ad blocker if you find the ads are making your experience of the site bad.

I can appreciate the position youre in, the pont of this thread and Im sure others like it is simply to kick up a fuss to draw attention to the issue. If users in the site decline due to the ads (I know i use the site less frequently now due to them) then its counterproductive to the purpose of having moe ads to increase the ad revenue.

If no one says anything then there is less of a chance that anything could change. I dont know what the chances are of ioi/Brett seeing/responding to this are but still its worth a shot.

The supporter system is a project Trucks and I came up with completely independent of Brett, and Brett doesn't receive any of the money people donate, so he's not profiting from it. It could've been a simple donation system for the volunteer staff but in order to make it a cooler and more rewarding concept we added various perks we could think up for those who donate; perks that we ourselves would appreciate too (any staff with Supporter tags are paying out of their own pockets).

The removal of ads was a perk we got permission from Brett to add to the system when we approached him with the concept, but it's not the reason we made it and it's not the reason the ads have gotten worse (assuming that they have gotten worse; I wouldn't really know because before the Supporter system was developed I always used an ad blocker out of necessity anyway)

Out of curiosity, what if another reason we are getting increased ads is due to ioi getting less revenue from the users that are in the supporter program that gets the ads removed? Have you considered maybe giving ioi say 10% of the cut since it is his website and in exchange, you guys have control of the ad placement and etc? I know its supposed to be for the writers and mods and etc but 10% (as an example) to keep the rest of the users happy is a goodsh deal in my books. Cause then, ioi can have ad rev and 10% of the supporter rev cause its his site while you guys get 90% and keep the intrusive ads away which makes people happy and potentially doesn't scare away new users.
