What is wrong with the console market ? everywhere the Wii U and Xbox One are down YTD ?.

I'm surprised that the 360 dropped more than the PS3. I suppose the 360 sold more units so it had further to drop.

Despite the fact that the video gaming industry is growing at a tremendous rate, the console space is shrinking overall as the fresher, sexier, smart devices territory encroaches on that space.
I am leaving it to Nintendo to turn that trend. All I think we can expect from Sony is to stick to a formula, and Microsoft to try to merge consoles with PC; since most basement gamers (or hardcore, as they often proudly refer themselves) have already converted to Steam from consoles, and Microsoft wants that market niche.

the gap between the PS4 and XB1 is really going to start to grow now.

This is expected. As it stands we have only one console that is doing well. And for obvious reasons.

If anything I feel that the console space just needs a united front. Having three players in there with a total of 5 home console platforms between them is just "splitting the votes" as it is. There are people still buy PS3s, 360s and wiiUs.

I don't even think the console space needs three players in there...... especially when 2 of the three players are under performing.

And still there are some who insist that this will be a long generation. Trends are developing precisely as some predicted in here a few years back.
