Just wait until Nintendo does it too, profits skyrocket for them as well.

Can they do it? Honestly speaking, can Nintendo charge for online? Even with the same service offered (identical), I don't know if Nintendo will get away with it, like Sony has.

IMO they can't, Nintendo home consoles have become a 2nd console that you buy to play nintendo games alongside your PS4.

There won't be many people willing to pay 2 online subs at the same time just to play smash splatoon and kart.

Nintendo can only get away with an online fee if they get just as just as much 3rd party support as Sony does.

Let's be honest how many online games are there to play on Wii U? just a few.

Will the NX be able to change that? i hope not, honestly i don't even like playing online and i love Nintendo single player games, i'm fine with Nintendo focusing on SP.

I remember being a lurker back when news were gloomy, so it's really impressive how they could turn the company around. Even during its harder times, I always believed they would push through.

Great news for Sony. Here's hoping towards more bright days ahead.

too bad Sony's other divisions have done so poorly so many years, that often regardless of if the video game division is making money the company loses money overall : O would not be surprised if the same still applies

as far as I know the rest of their company (which is a much larger proportion than their video game sector when combined) is still struggling. Frankly one must wonder at some point if Sony would be better off abandoning their other sectors. they don't need to be a giant corporation and its certainly proved difficult for them to stay ahead in the phone, TV, film, music categories

It no longer applies, as the overall sony is lifted by another key division along with gaming. Honestly sony burned a lot of the fat (aka got rid of, because they knew they could no longer be player in that market). Mobile is really the only division left that needs to be axed sooner or later.

OP: Nice to see Sony doing so much better. They most certainly deserve their success for all their efforts with the ps3. That's how you treat your customers (not the way they did with the psp and psvita).

Edit: Saw CGI's post.

gaming as a service is where it's at, good on them on the PS+ side as well as the crazy amount of sales week after week on psn... taking a little page out of the Steam playbook on that one must be paying off like crazy.

good job all around

Kaz deserves a lot of credit for the PS4's success, but so do Nintendo and Microsoft heh

Pretty much handed the PS4 this gen on a silver platter with how they handled their two entries... as long as they put forth a decent console that didn't include and stupid gimmicks or consumer-unfriendly features they basically had this gen won.

It's really not that simple. I see people making such claims all the time when they want to downplay the success of a company but it's incredibly naive to act as if Sony won this generation simply because it had a console with no gimmicks and the other two companies screwed up. Sony screwed up majorly last generation and still managed to do well in terms of sales and relevancy. The ps4 has been such a huge success for a number of reasons, including what you just said.

I wonder when PS Vue will make it over to Europe. Anyone have any idea how well PSNow is performing?

i doubt it, they will keep it and put ps4 games one day tough
