Obv. both are great games and Tomb Raider does some things better (tombs, collectables, customization on weapons) but overall Uncharteds story telling, feel of adventure and presentation give it a clear edge.

Yeah..... Tomb Raider sucked (in my opinion) back then. I can't deny it. I bought them all. It was the definition on an annual game that lacked polish. Of the originals, I only really enjoyed 1, 2, and TLR but I'm not even sure i enjoyed them . I just forced my way through them. Angel of Darkness was the nail in the coffin. I jumped for joy when Tomb Raider Legend came out. That was "Tomb Raider Unchartified" in my opinion and it came out BEFORE Uncharted! Bought it and 100% it for PS2, Xbox 360, and PSP. |
Did you play anniversary? That was a great remake of the original Tombraiders. Legend was ok, anniversary was finally back to greatness.
The reboot wasn't Tombraider, it was FC3 with a female lead. That was still quite enjoyable, just not Tombraider. And tbh FC3 was better although the pacing suffered in the second half. Uncharted wasn't Tombraider either, way too much shooting and no path finding whatsoever. The prince of persia trilogy was closer to TR than Uncharted.
Uncharted 4 improves on the path finding, although mostly used for stealth gameplay and the occasional collectable. Figuring out how to progress through a complicated level for an hour or more is not allowed anymore today. I seem to be in the minority too for liking the water temple in OOT :) I still remember levels like The cistern from the original TR, I doubt I'll remember any layouts from U4 in a year. I can hardly recall anything of the TR reboot either. Luckily we have easy ways to make screenshots nowadays!

Never played Far cry. Can't comment on that. I bought anniversary on ps2 and 360, though. Loved it. It's how a remake should be done! Brought the old dated gameplay into the present.
I'm kinda wanting to play that trilogy again....
Tomb Raider as a series in general is better than Uncharted as a series
However I did enjoy Uncharted 4 more tahn ROTR.
I think this is because with the new entries, Tomb Raider has kinda forgotten what its supposed to be, about Tomb Raider, exploration, etc, something Uncharted 4 has nailed imo

you have bad experience on forums that's why you have to include it here and start a thread where you imply that uncharted fans are fanboys and hater? makes sense, that's why I don't even start a conversation with xbox fans here because I know wow bad they can be from crapgamer :( |
nah i'm not implying that! there are a lot of haters and fanboys from Nintendo and MS too, they are everywhere. I was not saying that everybody was going to hate me, but there are certain people that think that I hate uncharted when the clearly thread says that I love both games and I gave an opinion of why I think that one game is better than the other for my taste, if you read my thread i don't say that one game is better than the other because the other is crap, but some people could think that Im saying that and that's when they start being evil fanboys.

Basically he's saying a game that has you in the wild, with an open world, and hunting is a Far Cry 3 clone.
Its a stretch. With his logic AC and MGSV are also FC3.

Hmm, marooned on an island filled with people out to get you. Trying to get back to your friends, ending up as a lone warrior anyway. Optional 'tombs' with treasure. Sounds familiar. The big difference for me was that FC3 did not take itself seriously which made it the better game. TR suffered too much from a disconnect between the player's actions and the character it was trying to portray.
Here's a good spoiler free comparison

Although I have to disagree on the draw for story. In FC3 I was actually looking forward to the next crazy cut scene or character. I can't remember any of the side characters from Tombraider while I still rememer a lot from FC3's confrontations.
Anyway if you like the Tombraider reboot you'll enjoy FC3 as well.

Uhh... still a stretch. Both have a similar plot and focus on exploration, but the gameplay varies greatly. Telling someone TR and FC3 are the same is misleading.

I respect your opinion onion berry and nobody can disagree because it's your opinion based on your tastes.
It's like when I said last January I will enjoy The order 1886 more then Bloodborne because it's my type of game. When the reviews came out people said I was crazy but after playing them I still enjoyed the order more. It suited my tastes.
Anyway I personally think uncharted games are better than tomb raider. I got TR 2013 free with ps plus and completed it. It was decent but I definitely wouldn't have paid for it. The quality was just not that good I thought.
On the collection side of things Yeah TR has way more of it than uncharted but I wasn't bothered looking for the collectibles in TR. It was just another open world game with things to find but after completing a ton of games like that over the years it gets boring.
With uncharted I'm glad they just have 7/8 treasures per chapter plus a few other things. Because if it had more like TR platinuming the game would be a chore.
Based on the original TR and the 3 uncharted games, i can say i agree to a point. Uncharted is a story based spectacle with great pace. TR adapted some very dramatic scenes, but it introduces new exploration and combat ways to the game as you progress. The story is not as much the focus on TR as the gameplay is. That is not to say the gameplay in uncharted is bad but it doesn't have the same crescendo.
Though i guess wich one is better depends on what you value the most.
Personally, i think i like Uncharted better. Story is important to me.
