They didn't confirm anything, but since he said that it is more likely to affect the Wii U than the 3DS we can assume it will be more home console than portable.

I feel pretty confident that it will be a home console to start, and not a "hybrid" or whatever. It may have some type of remote play, or a portable version may come down the line. But to start it will be primarily a home console.
I think the idea that it's not replacing either system is because it's a new style of machine with a new branding. The Wii and DS brands will die with their less-successful second generations.

Actually, the most interesting part in the link is that devs are asking Nintendo to add features. This indicates a) third parties and b) the specs aren't set. The "features" that would add cost are most likely performance related. I hope Nintendo listens this time.

I really hope so. Nintendo absolutely should have a handheld that is somehow integrated with the Wii U. But I'm becoming more and more convinced that an actual hybrid would be an awful awful idea.
This isn't news. Reggie confirmed that NX is a home console last year. I don't know why people didn't listen to him.

They did market the DS as a "Third Pillar" even though it was the successor to the GBA.

It doesn't really matter. At this point we can safely assume, based off of everything we've heard so far about it both rumored and from Nintendo themselves, that the gaming system releasing in March 2017 by Nintendo will be more akin to what people associate with a home console.

Actually he called it a console but never actually called it a home or a portable console.
I think it has more to do with how the Japanese explain things than anything else... He's stated this multiple times that the NX isn't a replacement or its not simply a replacement for 3ds and WiiU. Sounds like both the current home console and handheld will be replaced by hardware that's not following the same design ques as its predecessors.
