I know the vast vast majority of VGC users aren't Norwegian and don't care, but if so, maybe you have a random fact to tell your friends or something.
On this day, 202 years ago, Norway got its constitution, which is still in use today. At the time, Norway was a part of Denmark, but Norway was *given* to Sweden by the UK (I know right, wtf?) after Denmark backed the wrong side during the Napoleonic wars (aka Napoleon). Norway tried to claim sovereignty, but the UK didn't acknowledge Norway as a sovereign nation. It doesn't sound like much to celebrate perhaps, but under Sweden, Norway was given much more freedom and self-govern than under Denmark. In the Norwegian-Swedish (or Swedish-Norwegian) union, Norway was still considered its own state, while when it was under Denmark, it was just a part of Denmark. This was a crucial step on Norway's path to sovereignity.
So yeah, congrats, users of VGC, your knowledge of Norwegian history has now likely increased exponentially
And happy national day, fellow Norwegian VGCharters.
