I can't justify spending $60 on a game I'll play for 15 hours when there's so many games who give +150 hours of entertainment for the same money or less.

But when it's $20 on Steam sales I'll get it.

I'm the same with with most games anymore, for consoles. There are maybe 4 or 5 a year, that i'm willing to spend $60 on. Most of them drop in price so quickly, there's no point in spending $60 on them. Plus, i no longer buy a game for retail or near retail, unless i actually have the time to play it. I save myself alot of money that way.

I used to buy a ton of games when they came out, at full retail price. Most of them would sit here for months on end.

The game has suffered from oversensitive fans pre-release, who only want this new game to be just like Doom 1+2 (kind of like how some Halo fans behave sadly). This is actually a Doom I have liked from the start so I'm thinking about jumping in. How long is the single player?

I'm five levels in and it took me about 3.5 hours. There are, I believe, 13 chapters. So probably 8-10 hours, depending how much exploration you do.

I'm not loving it so far. The glory kills are cool at first but after 200 of them they get kind of stale. When the game is at its best it's a fast, frenetic bloodbath. But more often than not it just feels like a tired, uninspired shooter cobbled together out of pieces from the FPS/horror grab bag.

The campaign is better than multiplayer though, which sort of falls in a no man's land between modern military shooter and classic arena shooter.

Hope you don't think I'm an oversensitive fan

I think ID said it's roughly 11 hours or so. I can assure you though, the multiplayer is fantastic, such a fun game

So it's like a modern day Serious Sam?

The videos online give me motion sickness. I believe because of the speed. I don't normally get motions sick from games but some games that did trigger it with me were Doom 1 and 2.

Not exactly. I'd actually love it if it played like Serious Sam or Painkiller. There's more of a focus on exploration, weapon/armor upgrades, and platforming in Doom.
