Forums - Sales - April 2016 NPD Thread! Hardware and software up!

It's so funny, no matter what MS does it goes wrong .

In the past, mistakes like Kinect, forbidding used games, limited first party library, canceling core franchises, TV-sports focus, weaker hardware, always-on, Free to play, games as a service, money-hatting third party exclusives, the cloud, HoloLens.

And now after they have tried to turn things right since a couple of years and concentrate on hardcore gaming again, it just doesn't take off! This desperation where they put exclusives on the PC and it's all breaking apart, the sales are tanking, the core fans just aren't buying the exclusive games anymore.

Just imagine how left behind they are, to give perspective. Quantum Break was supposed to be this AAA blockbuster exclusive of 2016 and sells only 150,000 copies while the main competitor Uncharted 4 is projected to sell 10 million!

M$ needs to start publishing and producing a lot more, smaller, titles. Forget about the blockbuster shit. Games like Dead by Daylight should be launching first on Xbox. Xbox's bread and butter is online multiplayer gaming -- just look at the sales. Focus on that, emphasizing cross platform play with W10 PC's. Xbox users see no benefit whatsoever from Quantum Break releasing on PC, and they've shown time and time again that they're not as interested in solo experiences as PS users are. Games like Forza, Gears, Sea of  Thieves, and maybe even scalebound, benefit from having a large pool of players to play with. There're still a lot of genres and play styles that can be explored within the confines of muktiplayer gaming, and as long as they keep their budgets under control, they don't have to worry too much about every title selling gangbusters. This is more or less what Sony did last gen, with a few clear exceptions, and it payed in dividends not only in HW sales, but in consumer confidence and satisfaction.

To tell the truth i never saw Quantum Break competing directly against Uncharted, i think that it shall be compared with Detroit, when Detroit launch for PS4.

I know, but MS probably hoped that it had a chance to become this multi-million selling single player franchise for Xbox in the action-adventure/3d person shooter genre.

That's a one-sided split indeed.
