^ I was thinking the same thing. It's a decent slogan, although I think something simpler would be better.
My fave is still the original DS slogan "touching is good".

Alot of people don't seem to realize this, in the 30+ years of Nintendo hardware there have been maybe a handful of multiplatform titles that were true system sellers. The main reason to own Nintendo hardware is, always has been and always will be to play games that can't be played anywhere else.

Breaking: Company releases new slogan, Internet people complain.
Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

well technically speaking there is no game drought for a nw purchaser lol. 4 years worth of games, so like 30game to buy lol.
| dongo8 said: I'm not really understanding the negativity. You're taking the slogan out of context and picking out two words that are next to each other. The slogan clearly is telling people that this is the only place you can find these games, hence "There's no play like it" because there isn't. You think PS4 "Greatness Awaits" is a great slogan? Talk about overselling something, it sounds cheesy and over-promises on the potential of the system. Nintendo's new slogan is a play on the "There's no place like it!" that sooooooo many vacation and destination commercials have used to advertise for their resorts or events. I understand it, I get it, and I think personally that it is a pretty well thought out slogan, and spells out exactly what you get with Nintendo's systems - great first party games and unique gameplay that you can't get on any other system. However, you haters may as well keep hatin'. |
As much as I hate what NIntendo did personally with Wii U and Starfox I agree here.
The slogan is aimed at busy mothers and kids not hardcore forum gamers. It is simple and no thought required when you watch it on tv as a commercial during spongebob or whatever..
Alo PLAY is clearly seperated on purpose so the emphesis is on the word PLAY from the rest of the sentence.
Reading between lines to connect dots that shoudln't be connected is stretching it.
Well, definitely there's no "play" like Nintendo consoles, because on them you can play a lot of games that you can't play anywhere else. So I'd say the slogan, while it sounds weird (at least for me), it definitely tells about the uniqueness of Nintendo consoles.
"looks like they're going very hard for the kids segment"
Big, shocker there. The Disney of gaming doesn't stop making kids their primary demographic. Sooooo surprising.

"no+play" in a slogan for a games company? what where they thinking. Theres going to be so many memes on this. *facepalm*
Sonys "greatness awaits" "this is for the gamers" are okay, but not that good either. Xbox "All in one, one input" (I didnt even remember this, had to google xbox + slogan). |

No slogan is without holes. Nintendo's is fine. So is PS4's.
Also, as if this wasn't obvious, this isn't meant to make sense for Wii U or 3DS. This change is all for NX Nintendo. It's a play on "there's no place like it." "There's No Play Like It" is as good a slogan as any good slogan.
Meh... It's a weak slogan in my opinion, the message they are conveying sounds like "Look at us, we are different!". And using negative words doesn't help, regardless the meaning.
Look at Sony's slogans, they are strong and they convey a clear message, "Greatness awaits", "For the players", "The best place to play". They always stress how much the player is powerful and important during commercials and it clearly pays off.
I think Nintendo still doesn't know who is their target, sometimes they want to appeal children, sometimes the hardcore gamers, they simply don't have a clear focus. And the lack of focus is one of the big reasons why Wii U failed.
