Forums - Gaming - Disney Infinity canceled, Disney stopping as video game publisher

Guess it was inevitable, I've never really seen people going crazy over Disney Infinity, especially after the success of amiibo, and the amiibo craze that happened last year.

Not sure who the IPs will go to, just hoping it's not someone like Activision.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Looks like the toys to life market is cratering. Too much plastic junk to ask people to buy over and over and over again.

Even with Amiibo I think this will be a problem going forward ... most of the major characters now have Amiibo toys (some with several), how many more can Nintendo push out.

i still wonder how crazy huge would Amiibo have been if it released in 2008 for Wii & DS.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

This makes sense.

If you look at USA NPD sell-through, Disney Infinity sales were just falling off a cliff from iteration to iteration.

LTD sales of Disney Infinity 3.0 as of March 2016 NPD were 1.194 million, while the equivalent sales of Disney Infinity 2.0 as of March 2015 were 1.720 million. That's a decline of -31%. Toy sales were also falling off a cliff.

It was just a matter of time.

Skylanders is going to meet the same fate. The latest version of Skylanders has only sold 741.5K in the USA so far according to NPD figures, down -47% from last year's Skylanders.

I'm glad to hear this news. I found Infinity to be, contrary to its name, uninspired and rather limited in possibilities and ultimately entertainment. Moreover, the fact that I experienced the kind of performance issues that I did, made me see the game as exploitative of young and uninformed gamers rather than a legit attempt to make a quality game...it's essentially shovelware.

Sad for the people that enjoy it. I remember how sad it was when City of Heroes and Villains shut down.

Is the Lego one still going strong?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Yeah, I agree. The figures looked great, but it always seemed like it was a half-assed chase after Skylanders success. Disney probably figured the popularly of their characters would see them through this as opposed to making a good game that would justify it.

I don't know how some of you guys can be happy because Disney is going to stop making video games for consoles. That is one less publisher for consoles. Consoles are already dead pretty much and having a hard time capturing developers/publishers as it is. This discourages future developers and publishers. Sad times we live in.

Good news, just license the IP to better devs who have better ideas.

Like to EA? Yeah, Battlefront was such a great thing...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Made a lot of money and it is going to be a yearly series.

I'm a bit surprised over this news, I thought Infinity were making money? Maybe Nintendo stole all the sales with amiibo ;P makes sense though, if Infinity were taking such heavy losses
