I think they believed the casual Wii audience would just jump on board so we're targeting the hardcore Nintendo gamer along with the ps3/360 audience.

The was none, it was a bit of an identity crisis, it tried to be middle of the road and as a result appealed neither.
I think they were going for the casual audience, but also were going for another new idea to shake the industry and change again the way we play games. This one didn't work out however and quickly became a failure.

That sounds right. Honestly I'm not so much disappointed they created the GamePad as I am disappointed they didn't follow through on its potential. How many WiiU games just simulcast the TV screen on the GamePad? As an owner of all three main home consoles, I like having different gameplay experiences on each one.

Yeah, it makes me sad. I've said too many times it's a device with a lot of potential, but will never be recognized... ;_; It does have some neat uses here and there, but not nearly enough usage...

I disagree. I think the Upad was great for some games, but I think every game should have also worked 100% with the pro controller.
I think they were yrying for both. I think the NX will be core focused however.
They had no idea who it was for. They just created an HD console with a tablet controller and weak online infrastructure and hoped for the best.

But what makes someone a core gamer, and how would you go about targeting them? |
Someone who enjoys deeper games. Bayonetta 2, Devils Third, The Wonderful 101 and Hyrule Warriors were all attempts at reaching the core gamer.
