Forums - Politics Discussion - Ted Cruz drops out of presidential race, Trump secures nomination for GOP

Trump's chances of becoming president of the United States increased:

Yay! 52 32.91%

OMFG NO! 49 31.01%

I couldn't care less. 17 10.76%

LMAO 40 25.32%

Total:158

Amazingly enough, I feel like Trump is a better human being than Cruz. He's also a hell of a lot more interesting.

I don't think the democrats had any better. Democrats just settled with the wife of that guy that puts cigars in interns. It was either that or an extreme socialist that stoners are too lazy to vote for (Bernie feels poor people just don't vote).

I agree 100% it always comes down to the lesser of two evils anyway.

Evil is subjective. I remember people saying we should vote for Obama because he was the lesser evil. But that guy divided the country in a big way, he was an awful leader.

I just a more fiscally conservitive leader that doesn't bend solely to what left wingers want. Trump is a social liberal (not extreme) and that's a good direction for a republican party in my opinion. My concern with Hilary is she will pick up where Obama left off.

So whatever, glad to see the country is atleast not blindly going with Hilary.

Scary stuff. All the Republican candidates were unfit for office, but the worst two made it the farthest: Cruz, despised by his contemporaries and theocratic in policy; and Trump, a narcissist bully with a tenuous grasp of American history, civics, and diplomacy. That Trump will probably be the standard bearer for a major American political party is shameful.

I can only hope that if he becomes the nominee he will lose in a historic landslide, a la McGovern.

I wonder what the #NeverTrump movement has to say now and I wonder if they believe that John Kasich will somehow garner all of the Cruz supporters just out of spite to keep the dying movement alive LOL ...

I'd rather have Trump over Cruz to be honest.

After this stupid shit he said I wanted him gone:

He was probably one of the worst choices to lead the Anti-Trump campaign and it's exactly why he didn't last. If there was anyone that was more disliked than Trump in the Republican Party, it was him.

That comment though was in line with the thoughts of most Republican followers I bet.

But the fact is that Ted Cruz is hated by a lot of people.

Not even his daughter can stand him:

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

That's good news and I figured that he would get the nomination easily. I'm definitely voting for trump.

AFAIC and wikipedia can back me up here, the term "social liberalism" is used for left wing liberals. Pretty much like Bill Clinton or JFK.

The "market liberal" or "libertarian" can be used for the right wing liberal. Like Friedman for instance.

I find Bernie's ideas a lot closer to what a social liberal is, than Hilary's for example and this is to say they're totally the opposite of Trump's.

Trump is not even a liberal, he's totally the opposite. Trump is a conservative. No going-forward country has a conservative government. Conservatives tend to choose religion over science, media showcases over political debate and they tend to talk about moral values based on religion and not philosophy.

That being said, this is exactly what Trump believes and most republicans for that matter. It is true that Obama was supposed to be awesome and wasn't, but a conservative government is always a step back. You can choose a top 20 WESTERN economy right now and search for the political spread of it's prime minister or president and take a look. Right now I believe only Spain and Italy have a conservative right wing at office and they're both going down big time. Holland, Sweden, Canada, France and a bunch more all have liberal governments. Either left or right wing, the point is that liberalism is a step closer to freedom whilst conservativism is not.

Well, Trump isn't acceptable either because he works the limits of reality way past what I would ever tolerate from a leader:

What the actual fuck is wrong with this country. There are better choices folks. I just can't trust someone so crazy with the responsibility of commander in chief. We would all be in danger? The writing is on the wall people! Look at the damn wall people!

When I say socially liberal, I mean he's not running against gay marriage, he's not concerned about abortion, he isn't pushing a war on drugs, or stuff like that. His campaigns primary focus is the economy. When Obama was first running he was bascially a fiscal conservitive and mocked Bush on the deficit, but that changed once he got in.

Liberal countrys generally have less freedoms than us and we are considered a conservitive country (freedom of speech being a big one). Frankly, there is a lot of things European countries do that American people simply don't want. I talked to a lot of people who have lived overseas and many complain about the the economical issues, cost of living being too high, and how government essentially controls their life. This isn't what the average US citizen is looking for. Liberalism often leads to socialism and socialism is generally less freedom.
