Weren't the pokemon games split to encourage player interaction more? Splitting some pokemon between 2 versions helped drive the purpose of trading and interacting with others.... Or you buy both versions and be your own friend, haha... Then you would even need 2 GBs...

Fates however was an idea one of the devs had in mind for the longest time, and this was a good chance to finally do it. The drive was choice and having players do so with two sides of a big picture. This would have a much bigger emphasis on that decision when you had to buy one of the sides. This was pushed further when the director (someone in the team, I forget exactly) wanted a 3rd side cuz he didn't want to choose either side. You could say splitting the games works similarly with trading games with friends to see what the other side looked like.

Seeing how Fates focuses a lot on this idea, I don't really see them doing that again as it wouldn't really hold that same interest Fates did.

Or I could be wrong and they do it again.

I can see them employing this approach again only as one full game in future instead of separate ones, it probably won't be to the extent of Fates but I can see the whole choice struture being implemented in future games.

That is true. The marriage system came back from Awakening, even though I don't think it fits well here and only came back because it was a well liked feature.

Bit off-topic, but is Conquest beatable for somebody who doesn't have a lot of experience in FE games? (I've just played Awakening, easy mode, no permadeaths XD). Is there a "casual" mode or something like that which makes the game bearable?

Yeah, there is a casual mode where units will come back after each stage. There's also a phoenix mode where units come back the next turn in case it is difficult. They made it accessible to just about anyone, so you don't have to worry about that.

I didn't know that was a thing. I really don't think I could fail at Conquest with that mode. If it's difficult I'm not ashamed on going through that phoenix mode :P. I really can't get good at FE games, I've tried many of them before Awakening and I was always totally destroyed XD.

Yeah, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Conquest, or any of the Fates games aren't quite that easy compared to the older ones, as I feel it makes some big changes to the game which overall makes it challenging. I'm a veteran and I'm struggling through it, so no worries if you are too.

Yep, when you're used to something some changes can get you by surprise XD. They were always hard games for me, it's just that it's a genre I'm not used to and I'm really bad at something with the word "strategy" :P. But FE are fun to play, I can't be good at everything, obviously. Can't wait to play them! :)

I wonder just how bad you are when the easiest difficulty settings of previous games gives you serious trouble. I mean, the first time I played a Fire Emblem game I played rather bad myself, but eventually you get the hang of it and improve your strategies. The most essential rule is that you should never bank on luck, except if you have no other option left.

You can't imagine how bad I am. I am THAT bad, it's beyond imagination. Really, in SRPGs and FPS I'm... horrible. I'd say that I'm at least competent on other genres, but not in those. And it's painful to see me playing those games. Still, I have a good time with them. I've bought Genealogy, The Sacred Stones, Path of Raciance, Radiant Dawn and Awakening, and I've only finished Awakening. I had to watch the rest of them on YT. I stopped once they started to get really, really frustrating and annoying. In my case it's almost mandatory since I have some anxiety problems, and that doesn't help XD (that's why I am always worried about games' difficulty...). So I guess I haven't had enough time to get good at them. I keep the good memories before them starting to be frustrating though.

It plays more like the older games (excepting Sacred Stones), in that it's more linear, and you don't have the option to level up your team as much as you like. So you have to be careful in how you level up your party. You don't want to focus on too small of a team and limit your options, but if you focus on too many, you'll be decreasing the average amount of experience everyone gets. So that decision making is part of the challenge, if that makes sense.

As far as difficulty goes, it's definitely harder than Awakening, but a lot of the casual modes return, like Cloud mentioned. If you don't have anything against a mode like that, you should be fine overall...the key to doing well in Conquest is just that decision making. I personally find the standard difficulty level satisfying, though I'm also a veteran of the franchise...so take that as you will.

big IP but their next game would be in mobile. I hope Nintendo would port Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn for WiiU.

Good numbers for FE franchise, glad awakening revived or give it a huge boost and became popular.

You've bought Genealogy? Along with a Super Famicom? Are you sure that you are thinking of the right game?

I'd be interested in seeing videos of you playing Path of Radiance. Nintendo made that game easier for the western markets, so there's no excuse for not being able to beat that game. I mean, the EXP gains are insane. You can get three characters into their respective higher class by the end of chapter 8 without too much of a problem. Afterwards you can use your ridiculously powerful characters to build walls the enemies run into and then pick them off with the low level characters you want to catch up. Halfway through the game you'll have a varied army of overpowered characters, even without using bonus EXP. Of course, if you use bonus EXP, it's even less of a hassle.

"Bought". Not the case with Genealogy, of course. Emu for Genealogy because of people saying it's the best, I bought the rest of them for their original systems though.

If I had a YT channel and a recorder, I'd do it just for fun. Tbh, I haven't touched most of these games since they've released. The last I've played was Awakening and I've beaten it really easily. Before that, I've played Radiant Dawn about 2 years ago, so maybe now I'd be capable of beating the rest of them. I didn't play any SRPGs between Radiant Dawn and Awakening so I don't think so. My memories with FE games are of pure frustration in some chapters though XD. I don't think they're supposed to be frustrating, but it happens to me a lot with more games. I'm incapable of beating Dishonored, which is supposed to be an easy game; and my ride with Dark Souls games was like a breeze.
