Unless they make a good pricecut, 800k is still too big of a stretch. 500K is a better number.

And now everyone pretends they didn't mean holiday 2017, and really meant the first half of 2017. The Nov 2016 guys were closer anyway ;)

They shipped 3.2 million Wii Us last year (give or take) .... so 800k is ... lol. Really, really, really low.
That's basically like a Sega Saturn shipment circa 1998.
| Einsam_Delphin said: WTF!?!? It just keeps getting worse... This means they will have literally NOTHING new to announce. Since I was wanting to stay in the dark about Zelda U, I may aswell skip Nintendo's entire E3 show besides the Sun/Moon trailer. Like seriously, I'm not even sure if this E3 will even beat last year's and that's saying something with how bad it was. |
Literally the first thing I thought was this. I don't even mind the NX delay, but the Zelda delay is going to be excruciating now that I'm on media black out.

There are no games to sell the console: SMTxFE is too niche and the japanese droughts will nullify its impact, Mario and Sonic Olympic Holydays is not a system seller, Paper Mario is getting the cold shoulder from everyone, Zelda U will come to the NX anyway. What's left? At least in 2015 there were Splatoon and Mario Maker, and those games has a lot of potential. The WiiU now is devoided of any system sellers. The 3DS lineup is miles better (FE Fates in Europe, YW3 in Japan, Kirby Robobot, Zero Dilema, two Dragon Quest, Metroid Prime FF, the Lego Star Wars games...).

That is the million dollar question that everyone is ignoring and it frustrates me to no end. Nintendo has said on multiple occasions that the Nx isnt a replacement. When people get serious about taking about the Nx they will discuss what this statement means. Otherwise its as unintelligible as listening to ProtoMario. |
It's not a million dollar question. The emphasis is on simply. As in merely. As in not-only. You guys are looking way too far into that.

Did nintendo say that 2016 was the plan? |
Common sense said so. Why would the NX skip E3? Because something went wrong so it physically can't make it. Why was Zelda U delayed? Because the NX was delayed as something went wrong.

Nintendo keeps saying this several times though and Kimishima has specifically said the NX is not a continuation of the Wii/Wii U at all. They also invested $100 million dollars into some kind of tech aquistion a while ago, I wonder if that wasn't for the NX's "gimmick" whatever it is. Nintendo is notoriously cheap, $100 mill is a lot of money for them whatever they bought for that money must have had some incredible value in their eyes. They paid no where close to this for even the Wiimote tech IIRC.
Who knows. Maybe it is a new concept and Nintendo isn't bullshitting. At this stage for their sake, it might be for the best, because I don't really see them faring well against Sony/MS doing the same old, same old. Too late for that now, they probably need to take some huge risks if they want any kind of future as a hardware maker (specifically a console maker).

If they're waiting until March 2017 to release NX, that suggests they have titles on the way to the Wii U that they haven't announced. There's also good reason to think that NX will change something relative to Wii U that makes some games unsuitable for release on NX - such titles would serve as a significant driver for Wii U purchase (and would explain why Nintendo says they'll keep supporting the Wii U). |
Nintendo have typically only launched in March when they couldn't meet a global release like with the 3DS (NA/EU). Same with sony with the PS3 (europe) and PSvita (NA/EU)
I don't think theres any reason to believe that they actually want to miss the holiday.
Ninetndo are doing the right thing by delaying Zelda.
NX is far more important then the Wii U.
