Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is heavily censored

I... don't care. Game is pre-ordered. I really don't care if they want to hide some boob or not. I don't get off from anime girls.

The googly anime eyes, high pitched voices, and jiggly Jelly boobs in are not things that the non weaboo audience, at least in the US, is going to be comfortable with.

And maybe, just maybe, couldn't it be that a game like this is aimed toward that audience you just disregarded? Hence there shouldn't be a problem in the first place?

Disregarded? Hell no! I'm not a huge Anime watcher, but without those "weaboos" most of my favorite Anime never wpuld have been localised, officially or otherwise. I owe them and their tastes a debt of gratitude. I'm just saying that any dev that wants to have any sort of mainstream audience -- or at least semi mainstream, like myself -- is wise to tone down those weird super Anime elements to a minimum. Ultimately I think those things serve as an unfortunate distraction from the core message of the game for people like me.

Oh, not again... It's an JRPG, not a hentai visual novel. It won't affect your game's experience. Also: google "hentai" and you pretty much have all the boobs you want. I do that. It works.

And its for free!!!!!!!

Why would anyone pay a lot of $$$ to just get a "tease" of them panties and boobs when you can get the whole thing for free!!!!!

And by the way! Look at Fates! After the game released there are hardly any complaints about the censorship. This will work the same.

I believe we've seen the left image before. Not a surprise that more of these are showing up, and we'll probably see more when people get the game in their hands.

Atlus is the one handling the localization, though, not Nintendo.

And they are employed by Nintendo, just like any other localization team. Atlus can't release something on WiiU that Nintendo don't approve of. And since this is a partnership with Nintendo using Nintendo characters, it goes without saying that Nintendo is monitoring the game closely.

Fair enough. I don't see the censorship of clothing in the game to be that big of a deal, though.

I know! Free boobs for everyone! Yay!

It will sell nearly the same with our without "censorship". The complains come for a vocal minority, so I have no worries about that. Though when this game will sell not that well (at least, that's what I expect, I hope I'm wrong), we'll see a thread with this title: "Censorship affected TMS sales". I'm convinced :P. I'm a bit tired about all these censorship threads tbh. It's merely a localization, I won't be surprised if they're trying to achieve a T rating for this game, so that will definitely help. I don't have any problems with it.

Oh noo, the game is ruined by this censorship. Gotta go cancel my pre-order on this. I won't stand for these changes

Truly though, I'm not bothered by it, and the 1st pic we've known for awhile now. Heck, one of the other pics I can't even tell what they changed. They said something about spats, but I don't get it.

Doesn't seem heavily censored at all.

If a game is designed with adult characters Nintendo has been shown generally to be all for the risqué outfits (they ENCOURAGED the cleavage on Bayo Link). It's when the characters are kids that problems arise in localization. If Japan wasn't ostensibly in love with scantily clad preteens we'd have no localization issues.

Idols in this game aren't pre-teens. The fashion of the characters that they're chaning are kinda core to their profession and the theme of the game.

Ugh, the suggestion that anyone who doesn't like for Nintendo to screw with the game during localization should just go look at porn is incredibly stupid.

When I'm speaking of a greater "issue" than this one game, I'm not referencing only this game. Xenoblade had a 13 year old girl dressed pretty inappropriately. The main cast of this game was designed to be 17 in Japan, but some are given risqué outfits. This is a series where you fight dick monsters, it was never a censorship issue here - it's an issue of where you fight your battles in localization. Do you fight FOR underage characters being designed as sex figures (what does it say about you as a developer if you DO make that argument?) or do you let that go because it's 100% irrelevant to the game and because it's completely understandable to adjust something so minor because it can cause a big stink in another market that is less accepting of this sort of thing? Not to mention the fact that they're shooting for a T rating because the whole point was to market to both audiences in the crossover, and last I checked FE skewed a tad young in its fanbase. Dropping the rating is the best way to market a game that already has a good chance of ending up scalped to all hell within a month.

I agree though, the porn comparison is ludicrous. Child porn isn't easily accessible (thank god), and there's no ostensible reason people would be complaining about this unless this was their way of projecting their desires upon underage video game characters, or unless they're being entitled babies about a non-issue. To those people, I say speak with your wallet. Don't buy the game if underage cleavage is what you're looking for in an RPG. If that's the case, try Neptunia.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I pre-ordered five copies then cancelled them all and also sent angry letters to Nintendo, Atlus and Zoe Quinn just to show how furious I am.
