Forums - Gaming - Do you want a long gen?

How long should this gen last?

2018 29 26.13%

2019 27 24.32%

2020 29 26.13%

2021 11 9.91%

2022 or longer. 15 13.51%

Total:111

So I was reading a thread called "Do games really need to look better than Uncharted 4", and thinking the OP is kinda right.

That made me think about the life cycle of the PS4.

With the PS4k releaseing soon, that should help prolong the gen.

Are you okay with this gen of consoles lasting until 2020 or so? Would you want a longer gen?

As long as they refresh the hardware every few years it can go on as long as it wants.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

2019 is about right, 2020 at the latest.

Graphics are fine, but consoles can use another big step in processing power for new gameplay experiences. Next to physics based rendering, much more physics based gameplay and emergent gameplay would be appreciated. Faster load times, moving over to SSD, SATA 3. 1440p per eye for VR with eye tracking. Still waiting for natural language processing to get to the point you can actually have a conversation with characters. Improvements in natural sound reflections and generation.

And we need a console powerful enough to run TLG :p

Yeah, I want it to last as much as the seventh one.

Depending on how you want to count the Wii U, this gen hasn't started yet for me. So, I'd rather it last for a while.

Yes.Not only it is better for us, since it is more value for our money(without this upgrade hardware crap), but it also more realistic due to the reality of the industry nowadays.Games simply are more expensive and takes way more time than lets say, 10 years ago.If generations were to last only 4 or 5 years, investments in game development would simply be too risky, more than they should. And a longer generation would help remedy that, since the userbase would be (relativily speaking) high, assets could be reused, and developers would be more familiar with the hardware, making it easier to make sequels and whatnot.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Not really, the 7th gen lasted way too long imo. It held back 8th gen, because how successful 7th gen was.

2020 last year I hope

I want it to last as long as the last. PS5 in 2021 or 2022 please.

A long generation imo.
Don't want to buy an expensive new console every couple years.
I also don't want to accustom to a new console every couple years.
