Forums - Sony - Digital Foundry: PS4K/Neo Spec Leak Genuine, Dev Kits On Their Way To Devs

This is interesting. So now Sony is putting up a fight with Nintendo to keep the PS4 hot while Nintendo rolls out the NX. In my opinion though, I think Nintendo will have a better chance at capturing more sales simply because it's a brand new console and it seems that the PS4K is just offering better graphics. Now I'm interested to see how Microsoft will respond to all of this.

This is gonna be hella chaos, developers will optimize like crazy & force them buy PS4 Neo.... (sweat)

So the boost on FLOPS is from 1,8 to 2,3? not 4 FLOPS ? or is 1,8X2,3=4,1TFLOPS?

It's 4+ TFLOPS compute performance for the PS4.5. The CPU and bandwidth have more modest improvements.

From what we know. This is confirmed to not happen. Developers must have all games on both consoles, no exceptions.

That's fine, but I'm guessing the PS4 Poor model (lol) will start to get shoddier efforts as developers compete to one up each other with the best looking games on the higher spec model.

I do. You don't, clearly. I said we'd get a new Nintendo platform in holiday 2016 over two years ago. Most didn't believe me. Now it's happening. I said Nintendo's first mobile app would be a passively social app specifically made to get people to sign up for their new membership program, and was NOT made to be a massive financial hit. I said this the literal same day Nintendo announced going mobile. You specifically didn't believe me. I was right. You were wrong. I said that the console model of generations was outdated and that I expected to see Apple-like incremental upgrades as soon as within the next five years. Everyone said that no one would ever be stupid enough to do that. I was only wrong about who would do it first. When I say something is going to happen before it happens, "I don't know what I'm talking about." When I turn out to be right, "it was always obvious they were going to do that from the beginning." You can only think in hindsight. I think in foresight. That's your handicap. I'm not going to let it be mine.

Sony and Microsoft have both, on numerous occasions, gone on record saying that they never underestimate Nintendo. Not after they were slaughtered last generation with ease.

Smart console is a term I use to abbreviate what Nintendo is doing with NX. The term is made up. Who cares? The application is not. It's the NX. A redefinition calls for a new word. Nintendo haven't given us their word yet, so I'm making up my own in the mean time.

Again. You don't know anything about the NX, not anything more than anyone else does, which isn't a lot.

"Smart" console is a meaningless term, for something you have no idea about, I don't think you even know what your own term means. It's a vague "it'll be awesome doood!" catch all phrase with no logic behind it.

What's the difference between a smart console and a modern game console specifically?

Next Gen was too. A lot of people seemed to love to use it though.

It's not really though, it means "next" and "generation" which is fairly straight forward and obvious, we have iterative console cycles, "next generation" just means the next hardware product generally. Hell there was even a game magazine called "Next Generation" back in the day and it was awesome. What does "smart console" mean? That it has apps or expanded functionality like a phone? Well even the Vita has that, is that a "smart handheld?". Or is it that it somehow thinks for itself?

Not next gen to define gens themselves, but people were always talking about something LOOKING "next gen", which made no sense. being nothing ran at 1080p and 60fps the first year of Wii U was met with "It doesn't look Next Gen", then when the other consoles weren't really able to perform this task either Next Gen seemed to turn to a very grey area, meaning a ton of different things.

Thanks for the answer, that is huge upgrade right? but for me is a still a ps4 slim with some extra power and looks like 4k is on developers side if want to do. I don't think Sony call it ps4k most like new ps4, or slim.

So now only remains to see the release day, and the price E3 hype on

Sony arent locking games behind PS4K (if talk is to be believed) .

Probably not but you likely will see some games run like crap on the vanilla PS4 with the "real" experience only for PS4.5 owners.

The 3DS -- New 3DS isn't even a big jump in processing power really, it's maybe 20-25% and portable gaming really isn't about pushing graphical boundaries anyway (whereas home consoles are) ... the PS4.5 is a monstrous upgrade ... 4+ TFLOP vs. 1.8 TFLOP?

That's not a small leap. People notice the difference between a 1.8TF PS4 and 1.2 TF XBOne as is.

The differences in hardware between 3DS and N3DS is not comparable though. 3DS went from a dual-core ARM11, 128mb ram and 6mb vram to a quad-core ARM11 with 256mb ram and 10mb vram. The PS4.5 jump is in clock speeds and gpu only. It's much more difficult to optimize and take advantage of more cpu cores and more ram than a faster gpu and higher clock speeds. Even if they barely optimize for the PS4.5 you will at the very least get higher fps.

Anyone who ever upgraded a PC knows this. You can upgrade to a cpu with more cores and add more memory and this can have near zero impact on gaming performance if it isn't utilized, while a faster gpu always increases performance. Even if the fps is capped you can atleast increase resolution/AA or use higher graphics settings.

That's why the PS4.5 makes sence and is not comparable to any expansion or console hardware upgrades in the past.
