Original ps4 memory needs to be 176 GB/s. Not 17. OP made a typo.

More from the article I find to be of importance:
In the documents we’ve received, Sony offers suggestions for reaching 4K/UltraHD resolutions for NEO mode game builds, but they're also giving developers a degree of freedom with how to approach this. 4K TV owners should expect the NEO to upscale games to fit the format, but one place Sony is unwilling to bend is on frame rate. Throughout the documents, Sony repeatedly reminds developers that the frame rate of games in NEO Mode must meet or exceed the frame rate of the game on the original PS4 system.
The PS5 Exists.

Still seems too weak for the rumored 4K game playback. I still believe it's the slim and it'll mostly be for movies and run a bit cooler.
I just hope there won't be any Hyrule Warriors Legends situations

Why? who is this different from what Nintendo does? |
I'm not game for a two tiered console generation. This is going to leave a bad bad taste in a good 70% of the 40million customers they already suckered into getting the beta ps4.
I haven't owned a Nintendo console since GameCube, well i have a DS, but Nintendo doesn't consider my demographic a customer, they bailed on me I bailed on them.
Same with Microsoft.
Guess I'll build a new PC and get Vive for VR.

It doesn't change a thing, this will probably actually provide Sony with a chance to match the nx in power. I don't see an issue with it, games will still run beautifully on the ps4, and thr original ps4 will probably get a price drop giving more people a chance to buy one.

In what way is that bad? Your ps4 can play ps4 games at a regular pace. You lose absolutely nothing. There are no bonus features, no exclusive games, no missing content. |
It creates two classes of citizens. It's a big mistake, and one of the main reason many console gamers are console gamers.
Do you want to play COD vs someone with a higher framrate or higher resolution? Disparity is disparity anyway you look at it.
The only way I see this working is if the original PS4 model is discontinued. There'd be no reason for the original model if this costs the same and performs much better than the standard PS4. Why'd I buy an old model of a current gen console that costs the same as the new more powerful revision you know?
We've been mislead. There is no PS4.5. This is more like PS4.25....
I would bet this becomes the de facto standard PS4 model. With no Neo only games and no real gameplay o feature enhancements allowed, there's no point in buying one imho. Not that this small boost would really allow for anything dramatically more advanced.
Meh.
