Forums - Sony - It begins: Sony stops Vita shipments to The Netherlands

I expect 2016 will be the last year that Sony ship the Vita in the West.

This is one of the very few consoles that has Japan as the number 1 country for unit sales.

If I was told they stopped shipments in the USA, I would probably believe you since I haven't seen one in stores in about 2 years. No retailers carry the system or games around me anymore.

Probably first of several countries to be announced this year.

I've noticed that too. Even online retailers are "hiding" their Vita inventories.

Go to Amazon and look up on the videogames page, Vita doesn't have a banner... Same goes for Wal-Mart.

I wonder if this happening or news of this will lower the sales of Vita a bit if people are worried that it will stop being supported by Sony (in terms of weekly sales and monthly psn+ games) to the system, would be a shame to see that happen considering that every week tracked on vgchartz so far this year it has been ahead of the Wii-U which squashed any chances for that system to surpass the Vita's sales, it's basically not a waiting game to see if the NX is due soon to end the Wii-U's life or Sony end up pulling the plug on the Vita from psn+ or stop including it in the bi-weekly sales (this past 2 week period didn't include any vita titles since it was a season pass sale) to decide between these 2 which will end up selling more.

What retailers do you visit? I live in a mid-size town, and I find about a dozen places that stock Vita (and all other platforms) in a 10 mile radius. Wal-mart, Best Buy, GameStop, Target, etc. The selection is tiny in most places, but definitely there.

I wonder if they 'll ever go handheld again

If they even consider doing that it should be an Android device. That way it can easily get support.

Anywho, I assume they will produce Vita for atleast a few years. For a niche platform it does okay. Sony doesent spend money marketing and they dont even make games for it.

I live in the suburbs of a major city, In a highly populated area. I don't go to gamestop, so maybe they have a game or 2. but Target and Walmart in my area do not stock the games or systems anymore. The university I go to is in a small town and that Walmart doesn't even stock the system or games.

I've ask one of the employees once about it, they just don't sell.

Strange. I don't think there's a single games retailer near me that's stopped carrying anything recently. Still see 360/PS3/Wii games on shelves.

It's kinda of a shame that whole Nintendo-Sony partnership fell apart, that was a nice little piece of hardware but it desperately needed a company like Nintendo behind it.

I thought this happened ages ago, because Vitas have already been nowhere to be found for quite some time now. Or it's games. At most one of those Lego bundles at a toy store.
