Forums - Nintendo - Miitomo generates $280k per week revenue.

This is tiny revenue compared to others. And the app is dead now. Not in the top list anymore.

Wow... that's low. Actually at that rate even a Gameloft title was considered a mediocre performer. I know it is still early, but lets hope that it keeps growing.

$12 million revenue in a year is a long long long ... way from wii like profits
Though as the saying goes every long journey starts at a single step

For a company as big as Nintendo, 280k per week doesn't seem like something to boast about.

kind of an irrelevant number when you consider amount revenue a company like Nintendo is bringing in through other means and certainly not a high figure for a mobile app in terms of revenue

Point of this first Nintendo app isn't to make money, Nintendo said main point is to make people download app and open Nintendo account, but also people to become aware of Nintendo at mobile devices, and also to be more like marketing tool for Nintendo other apps/games and products. So Nintendo will release also games with their popular IPs that very likely will not be free, and Nintendo expecting from those games to make money. Also Miitomo is out only 2 weeks so profit will be definitely be increased by time, so not bad at all for app that didnt had intention to make money.

Miitomo

Isn't this a thing that already dead just like Wii U?

A few million a year won't save Nintendos portable division. They were struggling with dedicated handheld aka "handhelp" so they made mobile app. Now the last resort isn't working. It's a chaotic market. What now?

It is working so far.Miitomo was made to raise brand awareness, and if we take this news as fact, Miitomo has been downloaded more than 6 million times, in less than 1 month of its japanese release, and less than 2 weeks in its second release. And they still have to release to the rest of the countries they said they would, and they didnt even make their first real mobile game, which most likely will share some type of connection to Miitomo.Do a better job downplaying Nintendo next time

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

6 million? Are you making that number? As far I know there is no confirmation of 6 million. Gaf estimate is 4 million which is far cry from 100 million of big downloads. And unless they can convert those brand awareness into purchase it's meaningless. No one is downloplaying Nintendo. Just stating facts which is harsh.

Well the new President said he wanted to return to Wii like profits and he seems to be well on his way, holy s**t.

No it doesnt make 280k/week, the app is already out of the top charts. From what I've heard it's also not an app that you will keep on playing.

Nintendo confirmed that it had 3 million users by the first of april. If we take this report as fact, it sates that the app has been downloaded 2.6 million times last week, which puts the app roughtly at 6 million downloads. Its an estimate sure, but its all the information we have. And sure, you are stating facts, but where you get it wrong is that you spelled "good news" wrong.

Edit: And the 100 million download plan that Nintendo has is to be achieved in long-term(read:1 year or more), and the app has started well, for all the reasons listed before.

What is the app even charging for?

Aren't the coins the currency used for clothes and minigames? That must be it

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

This news if true is great if you consider this:

This app was never made to make money. This is essentially MiiPlaza for mobile.

Miitomo was made as a social spot for games of Nintendo titles to find out what the people on their friends list are playing/doing and to be the mobile conduit to My Nintendo. Other developers have their own but I don't think any of them has ever made on the charts. (For example Hive, it is a way to get friends right away on new games.) And like MiiPlaza has a few thing that you can purchase in app.

Once their actual mobile games do come out the social network for their games are in place. Most mobile developers retro fit the networks into their games after releasing the game. Also they are laying the ground work of connecting Nintendo platform games to the mobile space. (Can be worded better but I'm tired currently.)
