I suddenly feel prompted to name myself Hackery Von Tacheatalot, and then work my way up to the highest gamer score possible, just to confuse people.

Also, the name Hackery Von Tacheatalot sounds pretty freaking awesome anyway.

Cheating implies playing with an advantage not intended by the developer. Downloading a game save to skip a level, is like skiping a chapter of a dvd we don't like, or speed reading past a boring page in a book, I'm not playing with weapons I shouldn't have yet, or a god mode. And game saves are not affecting anyones online experience.

If your principles are so high and mighty that you wouldn't dare skip a level by cheating, that's great for you, but now we are going to impose these principles on everyone?

Secondly this is not good for business, people downloading games saves aren't people stealing games, they are spending healthy amount of money on this industry, they are also people with disposable income as they have pissed money away on devices to hook up their harddrive or memory devices to their pcs. So Microsoft is pissing off good customers. And seriously who's not buying Microsoft games because a few other people out there are cheating? No one. So as Microsoft falls to third place in the console race, in arguably Sony's biggest year, Microsoft's strategy is to spend money on policing the only gaming community that has to pay subscription fees.

you just are mad b/c you do it...its not a bad thing to get people to play by the rules

This has nothing to do with cheating online. This news only pertains to people who have downloaded someone elses gamesave with one of two intentions. 1. skip a part of a game you either don't want to play or can't beat(what if you wanted to just see the ending of a game you rented and didn't have enough time to master a partiulcarly hard level?) 2. Artificially pump your gamerscore.

Now I did this for one game, for reason number 1.

I can't speak for people under number 2, and personally I think gamerscores are stupid, never once went out of my way to get them, never will, and would never waste my time downloading a save just to get a higher gamerscore, in fact I'm actually glad MS may wipe my gamerscore, I think higher gamerscores make you look a little patheitic, they only attest to how many actual hours you've played.

Secondly if MS wants to from this point on threaten this action, or just make it harder, fine. I'm fine with that. They already made it nearly impossible to use gamesaves, so it's not that easy to get away with. Or just take away achievements you didn't earn, that's fine too(I don't know how they'd even know that.) But to 'punish pay customers with a freaking list, seriously? Do they honestly expect to keep these people as customers?

I don't think using saves from other people should be counted in cheating myself.  Do you somehow know that this is specifically counted in their cracking down on cheaters?

Though I definitely think they SHOULD police the only gaming community that you pay subscription fees for, to make it fair for everyone that is paying.  Though I didn't realize people were cheating on gamerscores.  Why would you do that?  Personally I think they should somehow help with the vulgar online chat.  I'd like it very much if, rather than having to mute people constantly, you could set it to only be able to chat with or hear people on your friends list, or within your current group, in Halo 3 for instance.

To play by the rules? What rules? I buy a game to be entertained by it. I spend alot of money on gaming, I think I earned the right to play the way I want (offline) whether you agree or not(Again this isn't about preference this is about what everyone should have the right to do, without being policed by the console maker). To pretend I have to adhere to some rules when purchasing a game, would be like you buying a football, and an nfl offical finds out you have been playing with your friends on a nonregulation field, so decides you post your name on a list as a cheater. I'm like screw you I bought the ball I'll do what I want with it, and I bought the game, so I'll do the same.

You are still cheating, by your own words you are doing something the developers had not intended you to do.  The developers intended that you unlock the features, you use a save file instead of unlocking the features and thus you are cheating.  Makes no diff. if you are cheating online or off.

I agree that they should police unfair online play, this isn't about playing unfairly, it's about having game saves and gamerscores you didn't earn, which wouldn't affect online play at all.  Personally I do get the gamerscore thing either, but I like downloading game saves for other reasons, MS should come up with a way of letting you use them and disabling your ability to get the added gamerscore. And btw you'll be branded a cheater even if you moved your gamesaves to a new account, that you earned, because they have no way of knowing you did it.

And your right, they do nothing about the language online, I have heard enough racist slurs that would get anyone kicked out of any public place, or the cops called on them. Threats cursing, I've plenty of times turned off the the chat options. And for the online community this is obvioulsy a bigger problem, that affects everyone. Please I've never once heard anyone complain the'd leave MS if they don't stop and punish people with aritifially high gamerscores. If yours is cheap then you know it and you can't have any pride in it. I'd rather MS put their money into a new IP.

I'm not going to get into a giant conversation about what cheating is. In fact some developer put cheat codes in through an actual cheat menu, meaning it's actual cheating, and it actually was intended by the developer.(and even if a developer was all for gamesave sharing, it's not there descision, to make the console support it) My point was every part of the game I played I played the way it was intended to play regardless of how I got to that point. But my much larger point was, cheating or not cheating as long as it doesn't affect anyone elses experience online, it should not be policed. Microsoft is saying, even though I bought this, even though I'm using it in the privacy of my own home, even though what I'm doing with it isn't affecting anyone else. THey are going to police my use of it, and put my name on a list and brand me as a cheater. That's bullcrap.

And I'm not questioning the legality of any of this, but this is a serious infringment of my own privacy and freedom. I'm not huritng there business, or anyone elses experience, and I think if everyone here stepped away from their own personal feelings about cheating they would agree. We should have the right to do what we want.

^yep you should but if you cheat, you cheat..and i have no problem with the world knowing you cheat
