Forums - Sales - UK - PS4: 5.4M & XO: 2.4M

Figures revealed today by GAME suggests that PS4 consoles could be outselling the Xbox One by around one million units in the UK.

The incredible number backs up the reports from MCV earlier this month that PS4 UK sales could be as high as 5.4 million, with Xbox One selling up to 2.4 million units.

Earlier this year well-respected tech website Ars Technica did some digging into the sales figures and revealed that if current trends continue there could easily be twice as many PS4's as Xbox One's in gamers' hands worldwide by the end of 2016.

Despite the fact the Xbox One is trailing PS4 in terms of unit sales, there's still some silver lining for Microsoft.

GAME also reported that both consoles are still performing "well ahead" of Xbox 360 and PS3 sales at the same point in their life-cycle.

According to GAME the 5.1 million PS4/Xbox One sales is well ahead of the Xbox 360/PS3 sales of 3.5m at the same point.

Again, this matches up with reports we reported on earlier this year relating to global sales.

Though we doubt this will trouble Xbox Chief Phil Spencer, who earlier this month hit back at the consoles critics by highlighting that the company isn't interested in sales, but active users.

"I want to talk about is how we’re gauging our success, because there has been a little bit of dialog on this," explained what must have been an exacerbated Phil Spencer.

"People ask me: “does this [Xbox's change to active users] have anything to do with how Xbox One is doing relatively to PlayStation 4 lately, is that why you’ve gone to monthly active users?” And the answer is no.

"The fundamental answer why on monthly active users, the number of people that in the last 30 days have engaged with an Xbox Live game on Xbox One, Windows, or Xbox 360, is the critical factor for our team to gauge our success, is that that’s what our partners want.

"It’s not how many consoles I sell. If I sold a console two years ago and now it’s in the closet collecting dust, that’s not good for the gamers, that’s not good for the developers, and frankly, it’s not good for Microsoft."

Many other european countries Im pretty sure, its more than 2:1.

These numbers are all over the place.

PS4 sales are at 5.4m, but PS4+X1 is at 5.1m.

If it is 5.1m combined, and X1 is at 2.4m, that means PS4 is only 300k ahead at 2.7m. No way is it that close.

And a big fat laugh at Phil Spencer saying sales don't matter. Whatever you say bud.

The MCV article says more than 3m for the PS4, nowhere does it mention 5.4m. Your numbers seem wrong.

If the combined total is 5.1ml how can the ps4 be at 5.4ml? If the xb1 is at 2.4ml then the ps4 is at 2.7ml.

England is probably the strongest Xbox European Region.

Germany its probably 10:1 at this point.

Those are the "max" estimates for both the XB1 & PS4.

GfK Entertainment is saying that the PS4 is over 3m.

GAME estimates that there are over 5.1 million PS4/Xbox One sales in the UK.

So Xbox One is at most, at 2.1million in the UK.  (5.1m - 3m = 2.1m)

Probably abit below that number.

the 5.1m number is the PS4+XB1 (by game estimates of sales).

MVC estimates 5.4m sales of PS4+XB1.

If the PS4 sold 5.4m out of 5.4m sales of both PS4+XB1, that would mean XB1 sold 0 units.

Thats not real. Thats the highest possible amount of PS4s there could be.... obviously thats not how many there are, because there are XB1 sales in the UK.

So.... PS4 sales in the UK are under 5.4m.

However you also have people saying PS4 is over 3m.

Theoretically that means the Xbox *could* be around 2.4m, in the UK.

Its probably lower than that, due to either estimates of combined sales being to high, or the "over 3m" PS4s, could mean anything (3.1 or 3.2 ect).

Yeah, this article is messed up. The source they linked says nothing except that the PS4 is over 3 million as of January. They're just throwing numbers out there that they don't understand.

As for Phil, I really hate that spin. Obviously, sales DO matter because without sales you WON'T HAVE an increase in active users. It's fine to say that active users are your focal point but you look silly when you pretend it exists in a vacuum.
