Forums - Nintendo - How the NX Controller will work, and why you will like it.

The NX Controller will be...

A game-changer 107 28.84%

The next Wii-Mote 32 8.63%

Stupid 53 14.29%

Weird 64 17.25%

A failure. 105 28.30%

Total:361

The design is just stupid, I hate imprecise touch controls and I want real buttons. I will not buy the system if the controller will look like this. Such a concept also creates a lot of extra effort for 3rd parties because they need to change controls of every game.

The only way it will work for traditional (almost every 3rd party and existing Nintendo game) is if they use that Tactus tech that allows tactile buttons to rise up from a touch screen. But it's probably too expensive for a home console.

Edit: unless that mystery $100m aquisition of theirs WAS Tactus.....hmmmm.

OP: IF this is a true leak then it is an utter failure. Not because it won't work, not because it's not innovative (and to be clear i'm not saying it is), but because gamers are not going to open there minds to a fresh concept that's simply not needed. Especially, from a company that has led them astray in the past. You mentioned the success of the wii, but you omitted it's failure. It obained record number of non-gamers as consumerswhile simultaneously alienating a large majority of the "core" audience. The majority of kids today want to play call of duty and grand theft auto. No crazy controller idea is going to fix that. The problem nintendo keeps ignoring (so far at least) is the damage it's brand has suffered over the past couple of decades. And, instead of trying to face the problem head on and taking the generations it would take to fix it, they are simply trying to find inventive ways to expand the market so that they can just avoid the problem. I'll probably buy the nx. I'm too much of a fan of nintendo games not too. But the time will come when people remember being introduced to last generations big aaa titles and think of nintendo as an obscure alternative they never tried. Hopefully nintendo changes all that in june, but probably not.

Nope. Terrible for fighting games. Analog nubs/sticks are terrible for platformers. Analog nubs would be terrible for precision aiming in shooters. One button is not enough for an action game like Zelda, especially not one I need to control my camera with. I won't like it.

Garbage controller. Hope it's fake. Third party aren't stupid and won't like this trash either.

I think when you experience it you'll change your mind.

-sigh-

I'm ready to reconsider...

You left out feedback sticks, rotating bumpers, the ability to change virtual buttons by game.  This will be a vastly different experience than moving from my 360 controller to my One.  I'm very curious.  Gamepad's way too big to be effective too.  I also like that it maintained the speakers from the gamepad, one of my favorite features it has.

This isn't a Wii type game changer. Yeah the analog stick is a little different. Fundamentally it's going to be the same types of games, what it does do is it does enable Nintendo to welcome smartphone app ports and I suspect that's the main reason for this design change.

But basically this controller is Wii-U2. It looks to me like Nintendo was unable to come up with anything better.

Of course it's not Wii level innovation.  But that doesn't mean it's not say... introduction of the Analogue stick on N64 level.  This controller will not sell NX on its own, but it could be a major factor in returning Nintendo to a more premium feel and image.  The interface could allow for new and/or better experiences.  They'll need to back it up with innovative and desireable software, and a good system.

Time to find a new console, I guess.

Anyone want to convince me towards Microsoft or Sony?

how about abxy and d-pad buttons on the back of the controller?
press them with other fingers, so the thumb would be free for manouvering the analogs sticks while pressing the abxy buttons. you cant do that with tradictional controlers(bar xbox elite controller)

I'm usually not concerned with controllers, especially when it comes to Nintendo, considering how all of their controllers have been pretty good overall IMO.

Until the console comes out, I'm not gonna judge based off looks alone.

The design is very questionable, and I can't imagine using a controller like that for something like Super Smash Bros, but who knows.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

MAYBE the controller comes with a trigger grip that ALSO adds face buttons and a dpad!

Just trying to plug the hole in a sinking ship here.
