Forums - Movies & TV - Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Reviews - 31% RT

At the end of the day, critics are humans with preference, prejudices and personal experiences. I mean look at Phantom Menace. Why does the majority of critics think it's good?

I disagree.  I can't speak for BvS, but going with Man of Steel, it's just a bad movie.

Zack Snyder tries to pull off Christopher Nolan and fails.  He manages to emulate Nolan's complete inability to make characters that feel like humans rather than symbols.  However, unlike Nolan's better films, the philosophical underpinnings are too weak to compensate for this.  We wind up with unlikable characters against a pseudophilosophical backdrop.  Please remind me why I'm supposed to like Superman, or why I should give a shit about Lois Lane.

There is also the matter of making the movie fit the characters.  Yes, you can take risks, but you still have to realize you're making a Superman movie.  There is a reason this character is beloved, and you can offer a unique take, but you can't completely throw everything out.  They took the overwhelming senses schtick from Daredevil, X-men's protecting a world that hates and fears him thing, and throw a big gloomy dallop of Batman envy on top of it.

Apologists are going with "oh people don't like it because it's not marvel" or "oh people don't like it cause it's too philosophical" and so on so forth... but it could also be that it's just a shitty movie.

I agree with you, and that is the issue of this thread, I see couple of users getting caught up with the smaller complaints and trying to focus them as the only reason critics or users will not like this movie. When the issues range from pacing, overcrowdedness, poor casting choices on villians, Zack Synder inability to capture the theme he is trying to aim for, and so much more.

Do the bad outweigh the good though? What's an issue for you is a non-issue for others.

Again, most of the critics know nothing about comic books and related medi ( animated TV shows and games). BvS is much closer to BTAS and Justice Leage Unlimited than others super heroes movies and TV series.

Thats most of the reason I enjoy MoS and BvS.

The "weird" pacing and convoluted plot is not enough to torn this movie apart. Well, since MoS is much more simple but people are obcessed with the broken neck.

I can only see Richard Donner shadow looming over the reviews.

Saw the movie today. I don't think BvS deserves the harsh RT rating. I'd give it a 7 out of 10 imo. 10 being films like TDK and The Winter Soldier etc.

If you're a fan of DC characters and liked MoS then you'll definitely be pleased with the movie. The pace may seem off at times and there's a whole list of things I could nitpick at but overall I did enjoy the film. I do think putting so much trust into Zack Snyder to helm the DCEU was not the wisest decision though.

I'm a die-hard Marvel fan when it comes to the movie universe, being very I'm very excited for Civil War, and I think it's great that we're getting two distinct universes . I love the genre itself so I'm hoping the other DCEU films will improve on BvS so that Marvel continues to up their game.

Wonder Woman was the standout for me in the film. Can't wait to see her solo movie.

PS4/PS3/PC/3DS Owner (Will buy a Switch when mainline Pokemon game is released)

I just think it's far to soon for this movie. Like it went full premature ejaculation.

Could've use more Man of Steel movies to bring out Brainiac, or Darkseid. We needed to see Superman mature more, and see more of his feats IMO.

but SW episode 7 is actually a quite GOOD film. Its enjoyable, even if it is a rehash. its not bad. Its not poorly paced. it doesn't try to cram too much into one film.

bear in mind that the tomatometer simple gauges whether or not critics LIKED a film. so if they rated it 55% or 60% I believe that would practically be considerined a 'positive' tomato. The point being that a film can have census rating of like 6.0 and still be considering 90% positive just because a ton of critics like the movie a bit more than they disliked it.

SW episode 7 would be a poor thing to compare with Man of Steel though. I like Man of Steel but objectively speaking its certainly not a great superhero movie, especially next to things like Guardians of the Galaxy or the first Iron Man (or the Batman films for that matter, the Keaton one OR the Nolan ones)

Episode 7 was garbage and I think people are starting to catch on to the reality that it is not as good as they thought it was.

lol. keep telling yourself that enough and you even might start to believe it.

what people are you referring to? The same people who hated it day one and still do, and have spent the past 4 months trying to convince everyone it sucks?

Its fine not to like the film, peoples tastes are all different. But it does too many things right for it to be garbage. For instance, I did not like Birdman at all really, just did not click with me, but it clearly was not a garbage movie, it just did not suite my taste.

TFA has very good to excellent acting, solid character development, great action, suberb effects and sounds, pacing was spot on, and its story telling was excellent. Its only true flaw was a somewhat rehashed plot, and the plot did not have much "meat" on it. For me its a top 3 SW movie, and it might be number 1 or 2 depending on how I feel it holds up my 1st DVD viewing(that will tell me if it will have staying power for me).

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

Well man of steel was amazing and I can't wait to see this movie next tuesday.

Sorry, TFA was garbage.I don't care whether the lowest common dominator among cinema-goers liked it. If you look into it, you see how bad the characters are. They are 2D caricatures.

Doesn't matter anyway - BvS was awesome.

- The story does not hold your hand. Don't go in expecting a simple storyline as you would in your usual summer blockbuster.

- It is not very fast paced but there's a lot of moving parts that hooked me in.

- It ties really well to JL and brings WW in very well. Some of the cameos weren't subtle but they still tie in to the story.

- Some of the motivations were not deeply developed but you can understand the whys.

- Batman was awesome. His fights were very well choregraphed and he even had a character arc.

never liked any DC and that choice for Wonder Woman... no no no no no....

Zootropia for me instead.

waiting for Captain America Civil War

Switch!!!
