Congratulations. You've gone from denial to anger. Next comes bargaining, depression, and eventually acceptance. We're with you during this difficult journey.

He has a point. People who just bought their Wii U are gonna be so pissed. My friend literally just bought one too and if they stop making games for it at the end of 2016 then wow. It's seriously just crappy to treat your consumers like this. And that's something you can't argue

Of course it's something I can argue. If your product is failing it's failing. I'm sure Nintendo would love to be able to support the Wii u for longer, but at this point it's a waste of money and resources. Things don't always work out. If you choose not to support Nintendo that's fine. But that kind of reaction is juvenile.

If your friend just bought the system that's his problem. The writing's been on the wall for about a year. And how much more than four years of support did he expect for a flopping system.

Actually no, production likely has already stopped. They're not making them until year end, they simply want the inventory they have now to be "depleted" by year end.

That is not what was written, in fact it says "production" will stop in 2016. This would indicate they are still making them.

Actually this is what I mentioned the title is wrong, what the tweet says (per Toto) is this

Wii U production will halt within this year. That means "through the end of the year" is wrong, the "end of the year" part comes from Nintendo hoping to deplete inventory by then.

It never says Wii U will be produced through the end of the year.

Whats tragic is that they could stop producing in 2016 and still probably fufil WW demand until holiday 2017

Probably not actually, we're seeing clearly in Japan that they don't have enough systems.

That isn't to say the system has any great demand for it (it clearly never has), it just means they probably don't have a ton of inventory left.

Holding 1+ million systems in inventory would be bad business anyway. My guess is they probably have south of 1 mill in their inventory channels and they will just gradually roll those out as the year goes on.

It seems as though people think that the moment NX comes out that their Wii U's are going to be taken from them by Nintendo or something.
Anyways I'm interested in seeing if this comes true in the future. Given how little we know about NX this might end up being the best course of action in the long run. I mean think about it, the Wii U isn't cheap to make. And with how little it sells, the costs don't justify the means in the end.

Funnily enough, the 3DS might end up outlasting the Wii U by at least a while even though it's almost 2 years older.

It means it hasn't stopped either, so you're even proving yourself wrong.

The PS3 and 360 are going to outlast the Wii U and they're like 7 years older.

Wow, the salt is real in this thread!

Look, the bottom line is, when you have a system with such historically awful sales as the Wii U, it's virtually 100% necessary for the company manufacturing it to move on. It's just the reality of the business.

Also, if you are someone who only just recently bought a Wii U and are upset by this news, to you I say:
1.) You should have done your research first before making the purchase. If you bought a Wii U anytime in the past year with the expectation that the console would be supported for another 2+ years then you have no one to blame but yourself, as the writing has been on wall for a while now.
2.) There are plenty of top notch games available for the Wii U already. It got at least one game in pretty much every major Nintendo franchise and most of them were very good.

It's better for the environment.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Because they are bringing their new console out sooner? This makes no sense to me, it's going to be an upgrade. What if it winds up being something that is completely irresistable? I think you may be defecting too soon in the game haha

Because they are betraying Wii U owners? They are a bunch of liars. Kimishim asaid that they have many unannounced Wii U games left. He also said that he wants more Splatoon-like games on the Wii U. Iwata said that Nintendo will make Wii U owners happy of owning Wii U and give them what they want. Aonuma said that Zelda will launch exclusively on Wii U. Iwata said that NX won't replace the Wii U. Those were all lies. And I'm not the one who takes lies with humor or fun. If Nintendo lies in my face I will refuse to further support them. Not to mention that the NX will most likely fail even harder than the Wii U since they make the mistake and launch it mid-gen.

I'm done with this company. They can close their doors and I won't care. They can just die now.

Even if they move on to what ever NX is.. They could still release games on the WiiU..

There could also be more splatoon-like games on WiiU..

NX wont replace WiiU.. (I cant see what that should mean) but is he meant.. we will still support WiiU.. it could still be true..

Point is.. Nintendo know that selling WiiU is a strugle.. and want to move on to NX.. But they also know that the core Nintendo fans would expect atleast 5 years of support.. So what can they do..

EASY.. :) They move on to NX.. and keep launch games that can Run on WiiU.. on WiiU for few years.. all happy.. :)
