Difference here is that the PS2 was practically dead at this point, but there is a good chance that when NX comes out the PS5 isn´t even announced yet. Anyways even when it has similair hardware as the PS4 at that time and it recieves plenty of third party support, if the PS5 and X2 (or whatever the freaking fish they are going to call it), releases that will probably put Nintendo at square zero in therms of third party support again When it releases it has to gain marktshare alongside the PS4, which will be tough and when the PS5 will launch in 2020 it will probably outpowered and depended off a first party line-up again. Anywho what the NX needs to be is a transition device that fits the gap between 2016 and 2022 for Nintendo to than launch a console being able to compete with the PS5 and Xtwo. For it to be very succesful it should have that awesome thing that makes people want to have it alongside their consoles, but the NX just can't pick the fight with probably either the PS4/Xone or PS5/Xtwo without major concessions.

If I where Nintendo I would make a PS4 like Nintendo console with a nice gimmick, and many third party support. I would ditch the backwards compatabillity and restore the faith in the brand for the Hardcore gamer with the NX. This should be Nintendo's purpose of the NX and release an awesome roster of first party titles. When the 9th gen twins launch it can still profit from current gen and next gen launches in the first year and let it die the second year with a brand new NX which is going to compete with Sony again. But until the PS5/X2/NX2 launches I don't see Nintendo being able to really form a thread against a Sony console. I do however see it as the build up to make a console that can do that and can make a Nintendo console a primairy console instead of a secondary console mainly intresting because of exclusives. The N64 and Gamecube had nothing very special but to me it where the best Nintendo consoles, who says they can not be great without a hardware Gimmick and be able to compete with the rest. If the NX does exactly that it can be considered a succes, with selling let's say 50 million units. 

That's suspicious. Well, I hope it's just a prototype. I think it could work fine with proper buttons and handles. I just can't see how it could work with shooters, fighters, etc.

It looks sleek and will avoid Nintendo having any stock issues.
