See if you can hunt down a JVC Wondermega / X'Eye. Pretty rare but you get the best of both worlds with a combination Megadrive / CD that is also pretty reliable unlike the official SEGA CDX combo model that is equally as rare but a bit shoddy in design and not compatible with certain games.

Well i found a megadrive and Cd mark 1 for around £150, im not sure weather to put money down on it.

If it comes with a bunch of games it might be worth it, otherwise you should look for around a £80 price tag.
