Forums - Gaming - Spencer: More MP Players Make Games Relevant for Longer; We'd Love FFXIV on XB1

So MS is now to the point where they can't get games on their system. Devs would rather have their games on PS4/PC (PS4 supports all DirectX versions) with crossplay and skip the xbone due to its low sales. Its good to see MS react to criticism but unfortunately we see again its only market conditions that forced them to change.

Matchmaking is a pain in the ass for a lot of online games. You don't want to waste your precious gaming minutes waiting for "1 player to join". Combining both platforms could be a great step forward. I like it!

See, this is why Xbox should never be in a dominant position in consoles. Do you think MS would be implementing cross platform play if Xb one was ahead of PS4? No they wouldn't. But they are behind and trying to catch up as well as make their online environment more viable for non-shooter multiplayer games. And that means adopting some policies that were picked up last gen by other platforms, and arrogantly rejected by MS at that time.

Exactly.

This is nothing more than MS being the rich guy/poor guy metaphorically.  When you're rich you get greedy and don't want to share when the poor ask to share, but now that they become the poor they're now asking the rich to share.

Not singling out MS as this is a common thing between business and personal.

Desperate times call for a desperate Phil.

At least the game is on Windows.

Well bribe doesn't mean what you think.

If they paid for FFXI, cool. The end result was continued support from Square Enix.

Bribe as in "pay for special treatment". They bribed them...

Here's the thing, Square Enix is a business. They make decisions based on what's financially worthwhile. They dont just support a console they personally like the most.

The reason FF is still coming to Xbox is because its a popular series in the west.

Well, they don't support a console with little support unless money is involved and it was... Yes it's a business, but businesses make arrangements when you pay them.

Bribes, for lack of a better word...

Also, Square Enix already expressed their wish to port the game. Thing is that right now they are busy revving up for FFXV, so odds are right now they are leaving that for latter, when they are done with Nocto...

Square Enix support was inevitably coming, especially given SE's eventual focus on the west. But the kind of support MS was looking for was to help expand their fanbase outside of the typical western games.

Hence, MS invested in gettin some of that audience, period. That's just business.

Square Enix had a policy of only doing it if cross play was allowed. The policy was called of when MS offered compensation for it. They received special treatment and when special treatment was obtained by paying someone, the only word to describe it is bribe.

That's a good policy to have, doing it when you actually can.

What you call special treatment... sounds like support. In the case of FFXI, not even exclusive.

It's special treatment because they were willing to go an extra mile and act hypocritically to port the game since they received a few bucks. They weren't for the port, they were to curry their favor...
