I use rechargeable batteries and they last a really really long time but no. Using a micro USB won't charge them.  You have to take them out and put them in a charger (that you hopefully own, already).

You can use a micro USB to play with while the batteries charge, though. I can usually get away with charging once a week and I have a 10 foot micro USB cable that I use for both my ps4 and Xbox One when the batteries are running low.

Yeah, the Xbox One is reliable. I have only had one friend out of 11 or 12 with an Xbox One have any issues. He had an issue where the Xbox One would so the logo and then just go black and never come on. MS got him another one, Xbox One is a very good system and there is really no need for concern. But it appears you already have one so how are you liking it?

Get Duracell rechargeable batteries. Mine have at least double the gaming time in contrast to the X1 power packs and will have 1000 charges until dead.

If there is a good thing about this gen compare to last gen is that both ps4 and xb1 are very reliable. Last gen was a mess for early adopter with the 40-60% failure rate on xb360 and 10-15% failure rate on ps3 though I do believe the fat model weren't that reliable with the yellow ring of death.
