So nobody knows if regular rechargeable batteries will work with the ps4 connector. I know the connector for the ps4 controllers fits but wondering if I got to go with the plug and play...

I know.

I use rechargeable batteries and they last a really really long time but no. Using a micro USB won't charge them.  You have to take them out and put them in a charger (that you hopefully own, already).

You can use a micro USB to play with while the batteries charge, though. I can usually get away with charging once a week and I have a 10 foot micro USB cable that I use for both my ps4 and Xbox One when the batteries are running low.
