I'm not sure any of mine count...

-Splatoon has passed (as has Tearaway)
-The Last Guardian can be considered Ico2
-Becoming Human can be considered in the same "series" as Heavy Rain & Beyond
-Yooka can be considered the new Banjo

I'll go with Dreams then

Yeah, everything is too samish imo. Feels like I'm playing the same game over and over again.

Pretty much.

Everything feels like dreary shades of generic Hollywood mush. Destiny, Watch Dogs, Division, Titanfall, Evolve, Ryse, Until Dawn, The Crew, The Order, Dying Light, Knack, Ryse, Driveclub... they all just feel like soulless, cynical regurgitations of other, better games.

until dawn soulless? then you clearly didn't saw or know anything about it, if you were a horror movie fan you'll see how much love, effort, entusiasm and creativity was put behind creating the ultimate interactive horror movie game experience and they did it perfectly, they weren't trying to create a serious horror games but an homage/satire/parody of every horror movie, full of references to them, not to mention that the majority of popular youtubers that played it loved it and found it like something different in the gaming industry, it isn't soulless or cynical at all, and is actually considered the best "choice based/interactive drama" game as of now, because compared to the other ones like heavy rain, beyond two souls, life is strange, telltale's games, etc this offers much more interactivity and more meaningful choices (i'm not saying that every single choice matters and changes dramatically the story, but comparing to other games of its genre is much more well done on this aspect).

anyways getting back on topic i'll say horizon zero dawn, the last guardian and detroit become human are on the top of my list, xbox one and wii u seems to have some good upcoming exclusives too, and with that said i don't care about any game of any of the other platforms.

I'd argue that making a game as an "interactive movie" damages its worth as a game, just as making a movie like a video game damages its value as a movie.

Nothing comes to mind, honestly.
In my humble opinion, almost every new IP this gen so far has been mediocre or just plain crap.

oh yeah bloodborne with 92 out of 100 score on metacritic, everybody's gone to the rapture with more than 10 bafta nominations, until dawn with unexpectedly good reviews and sales and not to mention it entered youtube's top 10 list of most searched games of the site last year.

i know is your humble opinion, but maybe your tastes are the ones that are a bit "crappy".

I don't need metacritic or BAFTA to tell me what to think, I can make up my own mind.

that's because like david cage says they are more interactive dramas rather than 100% games, and if it is so successful and well received like until dawn then it doesn't mather if it is or not a "true game" (even if something that has gameplay can be considered a game, since in this one you walk, use the flashlight, find totems, clues, use the touchpad, shoot with guns, hold the controller still to not move and die, etc...)

the only thing that matters is if people enjoys them, and that's what a game or "interactive movie" is made for, to buy it and have a good time with it, and until dawn delivered that according to user and critics good reception.

yeah, too bad that making your mind seems to be only seeing the cover of the game and already making an opinion about it...

Don't get me started on David Cage, he's the Uwe Boll of the gaming industry in my book.

well that depends on opinions, there are people who enjoy his games and there are people who doesn't enjoy them, but the thing is that he is very passionate with his work and stories even if its results might not appeal to some people, and everyone can clearly see that he is, which doesn't fit with your "soulless/cynical" criticism.

any game on the interactive drama genre can't be classified as "soulless", since its a new genre that relies on its story and obviously doesn't sell as much as the anual popular AAA games like the division, call of duty, etc so since they know that they can't expect mind-blowing sales with them they actually put a lot of effort and creativity at making them.
