It got good reviews because of the Paper Mario name and it sold well for the same reason. However, the game is broken at its core. The only reward for battles are coins which can be used to buy stickers that get used up in battles; if you don't enter battles, then you don't need stickers and then you don't need coins to buy new stickers. Another annoyance are stupid puzzles that require certain stickers; if you don't have them with you (high chance), you'll have to travel back to town. These puzzles aren't just restricted to environments, but also include boss fights; without the correct stickers, most bosses become virtually unbeatable.

That's not to say that the overall formula couldn't be used to create a fun game, but it needs some serious work. However, even at its best, the new formula would still pale in comparison to the formula of the first two Paper Mario games. The best thing about Sticker Star was the world map that allowed you to select stages, but it should have had a lot more of them.

So basically it had a few design flaws (which Color Splash could very well fix) and isn't as good as the first 2 (first 2 are considered amazing, so not amazing=bad).

This is what I don't really like sometimes. When some people judge games like Sticker Star or Other M, they treat them like they're Superman 64 or Ride to Hell. They're probably more Zelda 2 than anything, flawed, but has its good points (I don't know, I can't judge Sticker Star when I haven't played it).

It's a sticker star 2.

So yeah, it looks like garbage, gameplay wise. But the game is beautiful.

I don't get why nintendo don't make a normal paper mario, it's so hard to make ? Or it cost too much ?

Poor Colour Splash. We haven't seen that much of the game and people are condemning it as Sticker Star 2.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

I still don't know why Nintendo is doing this. Sales? Sticker Star barely sold any better than TTYD despite being on the 3DS. The reception? It's the most disliked PM game by both critics and fans alike. There's just no excuse for this....... Fuck.

A few ?  a LOT, and not little flaw, but huge one.

And yeah, it's a bad game, even if it's your first paper mario. If it's not your first paper mario, then it's a horrible game.

You honestly can't defend sticker star, and this new paper mario if it's the same. Paper mario is dead the moment it came on 3ds.

That was the most depressing thing about Sticker Star. Absolutely no new characters. They were all just generic toads.

Who are you guys trying to fool? We all saw the trailer, we all saw that it's exactly like Sticker Star in every single aspect shown.
