Forums - Nintendo - 2D Mario vs 3D Mario?

?

2D Mario 32 30.77%

3D Mario 72 69.23%

Total:104

Both are good but the 3d mario's I consider great in this age and the 2d mario's I consider good. I will take a Super mario galaxy over a New super mario bros game any day. I am not a fan of the 2.5D concept it still feels lazy really to ditch the 3d platformers by not making a full 3d mario experience.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

well...

3D Mario have evolved better and they are far more challenging.

2D Mario are the most iconic (1-3-World)

Said that Galaxy can be becoming icon in years to come....

Switch!!!

All 3D Mario games are incredible, so for me, it's 3D

3D by a long shot, 2D must stay because it usually moves more units but 3D is better overall. just look at Galaxy...

3D Mario easily.

2D all the way. Nintendo has the 2D platform formula locked down that no other 2D platformers compare to 2D Mario games for me. (LBP, Rayman are good but just doesn't quite cut it for me)

3D>2D>3Dish

I'm now filled with determination.

Not even Donkey Kong? I honestly think it does the 2D platformer better than Mario.

DK is pretty fun as well and same with Kirby but for some reason I just enjoy 2D Mario much more.  I did really enjoy DKCR though.

I think Donkey Kong does the 2D sidescroll platformer thing, better than mario these days.

Agreed, Tropical Freeze and DKCR > New Super Mario Bros U/Wii.

While I personally think DK actually has 2D Mario beat these past 2 gens, I think the Mario's primary advantage over the likes of LBP and Rayman is in its controls/physics. Nintendo has that tight, responsive handling down to a fine science, while others still seem to struggle with it.
